Because it's 35 bucks and not necessary.

Sweet, simple and straight to the point Val, I like it :D.
The number of "mobile" dependent device users that come on VT are minimal at best and I mean really small. Most log onto VT for a small period of time on their phone but usually have a laptop or computer to access VT mainly.
Therefore not only would it be more expensive (Chat already cost $125) but it would only be used by a small portion of users.
i don't think it is warranted even if you took costs out of the equation as only a small number of users are mobile device dependent.

If it were a free add on I'm sure that we would have it, but as Val said, 35 on top of the 125 that was already paid is a bit expensive. I don't really see any need for there to be a VT mobile chat. As Derri said, there are very few mobile dependent users so it would be like spending 35 extra dollars so that two or three people here and there can log onto mobile chat for a little while. I just don't see it necessary at all.
You have to remember that VT is totally non-profit and that any expenses come right out of pocket, whether it's the cost for domain name, the server hosting or chat provided. So while some things might seem like cool idea, if it's expensive then that money is coming right out of somebody's pocket, not the site's.

Actually, it's the problem that the chat is coded in java and so iphone/ipod/i(whatever) apps will need to be re-written a version of it in objective C. Re-writting shit costs money.

Not Cool guys. You guys chose VBULLETIN for god's sake, 35 bucks is practically nothing, and you guys could install the AJAX one I mentioned formerly for free. Also, shrugging off suggestions because they're hard to implement is a terrible strategy for administrating

vBulletin has nothing to do with the chat room, and we're fine with the forums as it is. If it ain't broke don't fix it. The admins are doing a great job too, otherwise this place would be a shithole.

what I meant was that you guys paid to have a board in the first place, and part of the Vbulletin philosophy is that it's a group of people wiling to pay for board enhancements, phpBB is for people who are happy depending on the free will of developers in exchange for a lack of price. I developed a Wiki for it, for instance. I had considered developing a thing for Vbulletin, but I didn't want anything to do with handling real money or legality, so I stuck to the former. Also, I never said that the admins were bad, simply that that was a poor practice. If you guys were bad admins you guys would have deleted the post and hidden it, but the fact that you guys responded instead is a very good thing. though it didn't occur to me until now that you guys might not directly edit the files, which makes this a good deal more understandable

You ever created and ran a large forum before?

I've created and ran one (smaller than this, though), and developed a MOD for a rather big distribution of them. Also, I meant "practically nothing" as a comparison to the initial cost

You've been a member for a few hours, and you already think that vBulletin and the current chat is unsatisfactory? Fascinating.

I have been discussing about Vbulletin since before I got onto this board, but I can agree to disagree, So I'll call my side of the argument off here

Alrighty, kiddos. Keep the arguments out of this board. If I see anymore arguing in this darn forum with you, Laserturtle, I'm going to kick you in the shin. Kthanks.

If what you're trying to imply here is that you want to become an admin, I'd...postpone that hope until a few years from now. We're not interested in what you have made -- honestly, that's nice -- but this is more about making things as easy as possible in terms of administration.
This site has been running properly for years. You have been here just a few hours. Don't go telling us how to run the site, start your own if you think you can do better(it's been tried, go ask some people around here how that went -- you'll know who to find).
