I do about 5 yards per day and earn 125 bucks. thats 25 bucks per yard and a little over two hours of work per yard. thats only 12.50 per hour. is that enough? ohh and i forgot to add that it cost money for gas and mower mautenence so im not getting as much as i make.

I didn't check your math but $12.50 per hour isn't too bad. It's your job to work out the overhead (i.e. gas and mower maintenance).

How structured it your business really? Like how do you advertise and stuff? I've always wanted to do this but don't have my own lawnmower.

Well if you say you work 12 hours a day, (8 till 8) its actually only 10.40. I don't work with your money but it sounds a fair wage to be honest, as for paying for your own fuel and stuff well technically as it would fall under self employment then that would be expected. At 13, 125 a day is more than reasonable.

As for a yard taking two two hours i'm assuming that you're not referring to the measurement but rather a garden? Although even so how big is the average lawn because when I've mown both our lawns its never taken that long.

In the atlanta area for a typical suburban yard:

professionals get $40-45 to cut and edge the lawn and blow any clippings back into the yard from any walkways, driveways and patios. If they do the bushes, then it's $70-80.

The max Kids get is $25-30 for the lawn with no edging or blowing off the cuttings from driveway etc. and it takes them abt 30 min. There is one guy I know like you that wants to max out what they make charge $20 and they could be working all day if they wanted to.

So the kids that get $30 a yard might have 2-3 yards a week, so total would be 90. They guy I know, who is 17 yo, who charges $25 has 15 yards a week, total 375. He doesn't make nearly as much per hour, but he has as much work as he wants. He has a waiting list of customers. During the school year he doesn't have time to do any more than 15 yards on the weekends and after school. His price includes gas for the mower and his truck.

Also most of the people he does it for give him a tip at Christmas between $50-100 because they like him, does a good job etc. To make more money in the off season, he does leaves in the fall and around the holidays he can be hired by the hour to help older people with their Christmas decorations or just put up their exterior lights. He makes tons doing that because the older people can't get their boxes down easily or they don't feel well and don't want to be on a ladder etc. He charges 20/hr doing that with a 2 hour minimum, but what happens is they customer ends up coming up with additional things that are hard, like staking wood that was delivered or moving furniture etc. So they pay him for that and then because it's christmas, they tip him 100. Then after christmas they hire him to take it down. - Awesome idea imo.

So you might be able to make more per hour, but you might lose some customers, but I kinda wonder if each of your customers has 5-10 acres cuz you're busy all the time and I'd guess you don't drive.

I mow for my relatives and neighbors, and i usually get 20 for it ($15 from some, as much as $30 from others).
