So I will get to go to France with my friend but she told me not to pack board shorts because they are not allowed In public pools. Is this true ? I would have to wear swim briefs right?

I'm fairly sure this is true actually... I could be wrong since I did a little research on this and it came up with conflicting results. Most results are saying that people are either required or suggested to wear swim trunks for hygiene reasons. This is because the French say that you could have been wearing your swimsuit out in public before you came to the pool, which is unsanitary to them. Here's what I would do. I'd pack both board shorts and swim trunks (I'm recommending that you pack more swim trunks). When you get to the pool, see if they are all wearing swim trunks or if some of them are wearing board shorts. Honestly, it's not that big of a deal if you have to wear swim trunks. This is France, not the United States where people will stare at you if you are seen out in public with swim trunks on. As a whole Europe, France included, won't care if you wear one because most likely, they will be too. Just think of this as a whole new experience that you can have while in another country and enjoy it. Because you'll have many others too, I'm sure.

this is correct it is a matter of hygiene and the fabric lint affecting the filters, like the small minute pcs of thread and fabric etc. Never bothered me as I am a speedo guy, but as the other answer says pack both and its cool to have shorts pool side to pop on after you swim if you feel better, more comfy.

Yes, it's true, for hygienic reason.

I ve been to france and yes most pools just allow speedo type
no harm in packing both though and depending on the pool you can maybe wear shorts.

I used to live there, and in public pools you have to wear speedos for sanitary reasons. You can wear whatever you want at the beach, though (except nothing :)).
