It doesn't really matter what party the politicians are. Pretty much all of them are corrupt assholes. Watch the debates and they just reiterate and preach what people want to hear rather than what would actually solve a problem. Most of it's entirely irrelevant. Some of the independents are alright, but they don't have enough backing to be elected. Even if we had an independent president congress would do the reverse of what the current administration is doing and control the White House. Basically, we're fucked. What we really need is a total system reform, the elimination of our large standing army, and a release from the grip of corporate power.
