Has anyone ever called one? I've been thinking about calling one, but I've been too nervous. And when I was released from a mental hospital for cutting they said that if I were to call one they would bring me back. I dont want that lol. So does anyone know what happens when you call one?

Well it seems like you know most of the answer. However when you call someone on the out end of the phone trys to convince you not to kill yourself. And if they succed you go to a mental hospital

I've called one, they mostly just talk to you work out a plan of action work out what your problems really are and show you that suicide really isn't the answer. They don't just send you to a psych ward that would be rather expensive to say the least, if they can get you to get help yourself and go to some therapy or something from home they will do. Inpatient is always a last resort.
Be warned if there really is an immediate concern for your well being then they can and will contact the police.

I've rang one before, Samaritans. They are completely confidential. They have no way of ringing the police or anything, they're not allowed too. It's only child services, which I believe Louise rang, that can contact the police.
I rang them after i'd attempted suicide. I had overdosed and was being ill. They just discussed perfectly calmly with me my options. Basically that I could go to hospital or not. They won't send you to a psych ward, they can't. :)

Same as Kathy really, I phoned the Samaritans. Just talk to them about anything that is on your mind and they will listen for as long as you want and make different suggestions. Very nice to talk to tbh.
But for me it didn't help all that much as it was after that I attempted.

It depends who you call and where you are. I called the suicide hotline in the US. I said i wanted to kill myself. the guy at the other end said he'd trace my number and send the police to my house. I panicked and begged him not too, and he made me promise not to kill myself. It was altogether a bad experience. On the other hand, some people need to go to the mental hospital every now and then for a bit. Just something to consider.

I've rang samaritans too more recently it wasn't them who sent the police no it was childline. However they can do. In the event that they think you really are in serious danger confidentiality rules no longer apply. I'm not saying this to scare you into not phoning because in reality few people are traced it's more for extreme circumstances. I just think you should be aware that they can trace you.
But if you're really thinking of killing yourself please don't worry about what might happen just pick up the phone and call.

It's a crisis hotline you can call to get counseling when you feel like self-harming or committing suicide or something
