I see tons of sureveys that all ask the exact same questions. So I just want to ask, what is the point of them?

I honestly don't know. For some reason I like answering them though...
It just reminds me that I'm not alone.

I honestly wish I knew. Perhaps people are just unable to read, that seems like the most reasonable reason. Or they're just too lazy to scroll down the page and read an almost identical survey three posts below their own.

This has nothing to do with puberty itself. Puberty for Both  VT HQ
I can agree with you to an extent many surveys is annoying. However, people will always create them regardless and people usually put a personal spin on them.
The only thing I wish they would create them in Questions for Both Boys and Girls where surveys belong.

Yeah I see them to. I don't know why people keep asking the same thing. They can look through the archives or something. Maybe someone should make a "Sticky" thread for it so people will not keep asking about it. It is repetitive.

That's the most annoying part. There are more than enough 'sticky' threads, people just don't bother reading them. Just using Boys Puberty as an example; almost all of the surveys could be answered by reading the first few pages in each of these threads.

Sure, it's repetitive. It's been brought up before, (the irony) and there isn't really anything that can be done. A sticky would probably do nothing, as people don't usually read them, and will then make their own posts anyway. If you don't like them, there's a magical button in your UCP which makes P101 disappear. Just ignore them. People make them for various reasons, and I don't really think they should be stopped. It's annoying, but then again, this is a help site, where people should be able to ask for help as they see it necessary.

Your right. I look through them time to time. They have the answers, but if people see one "sticky" with a survey maybe they won't post. The sticky's are there for a reason. People are too lazy to read.

I'm quite sick of all of the P101 bellyaching. People want to create their own threads when they come to a forum. This is a help site, and if they want to ask a question and have people reply directly addressed to them, then I think that is perfectly acceptable. This topic is never-ending and pops up about once every month or two (ironic how we're all complaining about reoccurring topics). If you had looked through the first few pages of this section then you would have thread numerous threads identical to this one, where responses have been given exactly the same as they have in this thread.
People aren't going to stop posting their own, personal threads and I would not encourage them to stop. Surveys may be kind of pointless, but if it brings comfort to people seeing where they are compared to people in their age group then I don't see why they shouldn't exist. P101 will never change, you'll never stop seeing new members posting repeated topics and you will never see the end of the "is this normal questions".

I've always thought that surveys are always specific to the asker. The point of them is, that the person asking wants to know and create their own set of individual results. As Mike said, it's a help site, and to be honest I think that P101 wouldn't actually be the same without them. But I do agree that people really should have a look first before they post. Then again, who are we to judge people that come on the site for help, with P101 being a lot of the traffic to this website?

Mike's right. Even though we may hate seeing them, they wot stop coming in. And we don have to stop them. Let them ask what they want.

A better question is why do you give a shit? They're posting it cause it helps them feel normal, accepted, whatever, and posting it themselves make them feel it more personal. That's all. :locked2:
