I'm sorry for any Apple fights this starts in advance, but I was wondering which Mac you prefer? The Air or Pro?

It's time for me to upgrade and I'm thinking of going back to an Apple computer (I'm a musician and do a lot of video editing, it's just a better option for me personally, just putting that out there before I get called an idiot for buying a Mac...). I'm tossing up between the Air and Pro, I've been told that due to some component the Air is faster but the Pro is more versatile?

I'm not very knowledgeable on computers, so the only difference I can see is the disc drive in the Pro and a slightly different design.

What are the differences, and even if you hate Apple but had to have one, which one would you get?

Darkness.

Personally I would get the Pro, as It has more processing power, and would be better for what you want to do.

I'd go with the pro, since you'll be doing music and video type stuff. I'm not sure, but I think the pro has a bit better processor and stuff, which will definitely come in handy for video. And I think it has more RAM too.

They both come standard with 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 I think, but I'd upgrade to 8 possibly. Thinking I'll go with the Pro at the moment, I'd actually end up paying for an Air because I'd have to get the external Apple Disc Drive.

Thanks :)

Depends on the usage. Sure, the MBP has a faster processor and a bigger screen, but the MBA is great at processes like Safari, photo editing, and movie making.

The Pro is more powerful, the Air lacks an optical drive and has no real benefits unless you need your computer to fit in a manilla envelope.

Well as I said, I'm a musician. Main uses will be music/video editing, and I'll be using a lot of musical apps. Apart from that, just general web browsing. Quick question though, how do people with Mac's find web browsing? I never noticed with my old one as I never really went online on it (didn't have wifi in the house back then) but on my iPhone it pisses me off not having Flash. Does this effect much?

The lack of optical drive (excuse computer stupidity here, but I'm assuming that's a technical name for a disc drive) is an annoyance.

So looks like it's going to be a Pro, do they make a 13" with Retina?

They do not.
Also, just as a side note: The RETINA version of the MacBook Pro does not have an optical drive.

And as far as video editing, I mean, it has pretty much the same essential ports that the MBP would have, like a SD card slot, USB ports, and a thunderbolt port which can utilize external HDD's and displays Though, a bigger screen might be helpful.
I honestly would go with the MBA if you have a tight budget, but if you can afford the 15" MBP then go for it!

Flash works on Mac OS X.

Oh; makes you wonder why the Retina display doesn't have an optical drive :( Will just go without it, the standard screens are good enough I was only considering 13" for practicality, as I will be using it for university (Australian college) in a year and a half or so and will be carrying it around a lot.

I'm not really against a budget, I just don't see the point of buying something I don't need. Can I be a pain and ask why you recommend the MBA?
So far the optical drive and higher processing power make the MBP a winner, and considering the price is more reasonable than I thought, it is plausible.

Thanks for the information about Flash, appreciate it :)

My buddies and I have air and pro versions but I do not think recall any video editing being done, I would go for the Pro it seesm to get beter reviws and the tech heads at my school Mac people. Not that there is anything wrong with being a tech head they are all nive guys.
I have a dell and an acer tablet

I do not do music at all - anyways newbie here I swim and gym will add you and you and my blog is about my gym stuff.

Thanks for your help man. Wish I was a tech person so I could be a bit more knowledgable on this. Everyone I ask just rolls their eyes and tells me to buy a Windows machine -.-
Pros winning at the moment, considering they're of similar price.

It depends on what you need to do. If you just do basic computing, the Air is good for you. But if you do more powerful things, get the Pro. But you then have to decide between the regular Pro and the Retina. If you do any video editing/design at all, the Pro is best for you.
