Took the words right out of my mouth. You use some of your computers processing power/resources to aid Stanford in the process.

Yup, the other cool one is SETI and if you have a newish graphics card you can have your CPU and GPU working on stuff. Or you could use Prime95 and just look for crazy large prime numbers. I sometimes use it to stress test a computer if I'm trying to do over clocking.
