So Cross Country and swimming are both fall sports and try outs are next week. I think I will end up trying out for swimming because it would help with water polo, but then cross country will get my endurance up for track...but ruin my sprinting technique and fast twitch muscles. So any tips? Do you think doing swimming is better? Also I'm concerned I will have to shave my entire body for swimming, is that optional because I hope it is! If you have done high school swimming then what are the practices like. I know that they will be really hard, but I know they will give me a good swimmers body which will help for the hurdles in track! Any tips? Advice?

I've thought about doing swimming for my school (winter sport), and the practices are every day. They last about an hour to 1.5 hours, so it takes up a little time. But the teams is really close, and they are all good kids. The kids don't have to shave their bodies, so that isn't a concern for my school. For your school, I don't know, but I've always liked swimming on my own, and am thinking about joining the team.

I don't do swimming but I do a lot of XC, and I can tell you it won't ruin your fast twitch muscles. I do the XC/Track combo during the year, and I can tell you there are no disadvantages. Swimming on the other hand will get you in grest shape, but don't expect it to help you fast twitch muscles. Swimming often has two a day with practices from 5-7 and 4-6, so be prepared to not get sleep. As far as I know shaving isn't required, but EVERYONE does it.

Everyone does it...I'll be the exception

At my school water polo and track are the same season... maybe that's only for girls? Either way I say go for swimming cuz cross country only helps if you're a distance runner. Hurdles are only shorter distances so endurance is more of a bonus than a necessity, but you'll always need to swim for water polo

That's a great point, you can always run outside of school. Just takes more time.

I know I will...but as an update I'm not going to do either for school! Woah....surprise plot twist! I emailed one of the staff asking if a freshman could help design and build the sets for the school plays, and she responded with "absolutely yes!" so I will do that instead! I know it's not really sports related but that was just an update that I wanted all of you to know about.

No way bro! If you play polo then swim! Definitely! My biggest problem with water polo is that my swimming is not as good as most of my team mates'... Definitely go for swimming!
And you don't have to shave your entire body if you don't want to... They can't force you to do that!
What position do you play for polo?

I don't play polo. I just want to, but it's in the same season as track for my school and I would rather run track

Swimming will help with your distance running because it's all about endurance. And, no, you don't have to shave EVERYTHING....it's just helps to shave 'down there' because that way nothing is sticking out of your speedo haha
