Does anybody know why this occurs? I have been pretty curious about this for awhile and I'm sure that it relates to puberty, so I asked it here. Can someone please tell me?

we wake from a Sexy dream, and it just so happens that we like those dreams, and are aroused by them

Our testosterone level is higher in the morning, after sleeping. Same reason why the morning is the best time for us to work out.

Absolutely agree + it's not happening only in puberty but in whole life!

Yep, morning is when our hormones are going crazy...and also dreams have, at times something to do with it...and yes, Tyler it is frustrating if there isn't enough time to take care of it...but it's not only in puberty, my dad does to, it happens to guys all the time

Yup....hormones....and you know, it always is worse through puberty because we have those, ahem, "dreams" that are very :D for us down there.

It's to do with blood flow as well iirc.

it has nothing to do with sexual arousal, many mornings I wake up with a hard on and have no interest in sex.

It has to do with REM sleep. During REM sleep, men get erections for unknown reasons. If someone wakes up during one of these periods, he will have an erection.

It is also caused by a full bladder. A full bladder stimulates an area of the spinal cord known to be responsible for erections.

This is the usual cause. Of course testosterone plays a role, but REM sleep cycles play the main role.

sometimes even tho thats weird it comes from an important need to go take a piss, well as for me dunno about others

Yeah, I always heard it comes from a need to whizz when you wake up. Because as soon as I finish peeing, my stiffy goes down.

Another reason apart from the hormones is that in when you wake up, blood flow increases, which inflates the penis.

- The Reason for the morning erections for men is for nutrition of the penis .... the penis is as any organ or part of the body that need to have nutrition to keep healthy , and the only way is by blood supply , so when the blood supplied, the erection happens .
- Why it happens during the sleep or early in the morning, cause it's the REM Sleep period, which is the best time for it.
- Why it happens in youth more than adults , cause the hormones play a secondary role in that phenomena.

i hope you find my answer useful :)

Scientifically, it's believed to be caused by a full bladder. The body then gives you an erection so it suppresses your desire to go to the toilet, and you don't wet yourself.
