View Full Version : Choosing a sport?

I want to start a sport again. I think I've let myself go a little on the laziness, and I'm starting to feel the negative effects. But what better time is there to start, than with the Olympics starting?!
So yeah, I used to play sports, like basketball and volleyball, but I don't think I'll enjoy them anymore. Besides I'm only 5ft 7 - too short for basketball, aha.
I dunno if body proportions help and give an advantage, but: I have a longer arm span than my body, they're 6ft long. I have thunder calfs, lol. And kinda chunky thighs (always have done) Ermm, I dunno anything else I should write really.
So how exactly do I go about choosing a sport, I've been considering tennis, or swimming, but I'm not too sure.
What sports should I pursue?
Any input would be valuable (:

I could try baseball. I've tried it before, I'm pretty good at pitching. And I'm no good at wrestling and football(soccer) lol.

If you are a strong swimmer, you could play water polo! You need strong legs for it and long arms are really useful at times. Since you are considering swimming and you seem to have strong legs, why not go for water polo? It is a very physical sport without too many injuries and it is very tiring, but extremely fun!

Water polo is fun, but I want a sport I can take seriously x)

I've been considering tennis. Been getting into the idea ever since Wimbledon took place this year ^^

I'm no boxer, lol. I don't think I could ever get in a ring and control myself.

Yeah, I mean since you played volleyball, tennis is a similar type of sport, so you can probably be better at it, then starting a completely different sport.

Do you know how seriously water polo is taken at my school? I went on a training camp to Serbia for Water Polo... If you find a club then it can be taken very seriously... And it is an awesome sport to be committed to!

I know, its even an Olympic sport. I just can't personally take it as a competitive sport. But it does look fun (:

Pick something u used to play, that way you don't have to learn an entire sport.

I've always wanted to try water polo.
Running is a good sport to get in shape (which is what I'm trying to do), and then I'm going to start a new sport, so I'm running starting today (August 1), going to November, then going to do a winter sport for my high school.
If you're trying to do a sport to get rid of your "chunky thighs" but have "thunderous calves", maybe try skiing? I'm in New England, so it's an option for me. Didn't see where you lived, so I don't know if you can. But track is good, swimming is fun, and tennis is pretty cool too.

Sounds like a plan. Might do the same, aha. I live in london, so like, I cant really skii anywhere here, well not outdoors anyway. And I dont wanna get rid of my calves and leg muscles, they're like the only muscle I have, looool x)

volleyball is a great sport, if you like it then try going for that.
and long arms and thunder calves would definitely help with that
