(Does anyone even know who EA is? :P)

I was wondering what other people think of Fight Like A Girl. I personally like it, but not nearly as much as Opheliac. I would give it a 7.5/10 rating.

Favorite song: Goodnight, Sweet Ladies (If I Burn as a close second)
Least favorite: Scavenger

What's your favorite and least favorite song? Overall rating? Likes and dislikes?

Come on guys, I know there are EA fans here, I've seen them! I'm disappointed there have been no replies!

So I absolutely adore the album. Not as amazing as it could be for me just cause I've already memorized half the songs before the album came out. But I was excited to hear the studio versions still.

The theatrical approach (of course, because she's planning a musical or something it's appropriate anyway) both is in her favour and is a little detrimental. Just a tiny bit. Of course, EA's a theatrical person, but namely I Don't Understand and The Key would just fit better in a musical than on a music album.

Opheliac is an old album for me so it's hard to compare them. They are very different. Every album she's put out has been in incredibly different times of her life. Opheliac is important but I just don't listen to it much any more. I honestly listen to Enchant more. But I think that's why I love FLAG. I squeed when I heard the faintest bits of Enchant in some of the songs. I'll share what I wrote in my full album review because I can't say it any better:

"(On What Will I Remember?) A bittersweet contemplation of mortality and What Ifs (teehee). Actually, speaking of What If, this was the first song on the album that had me thinking about the Enchant era. There's this duality through the song, I pictured Enchant and Opheliac fighting and overpowering each other. Sweet and angelic, then powerful again."

"We're bringing back that Enchant and Opheliac duality, creating the unique FLAG sound that is both a mixture of the two and something of its own. If I Burn definitely reminds me of a song specifically, though it was a feat to pinpoint. I came to the conclusion that I was thinking of Castle Down from Enchant. Mixed with the bridge from Swallow. And a little added steampunk. Never too much steampunk! Like I said, it makes me ecstatic to be able to make connections with Enchant so frequently. Opheliac had its moments, Swallow and Shalott, but not quite like this. While Emilie has said in response to queries of why she doesn't play Enchant material anymore, she doesn't want to touch it because it was too perfect. While this may be so to her—and even I agree, while I love Enchant, it wouldn't be appropriate—I'm glad that is being compensated for, almost as if we're making peace with it musically."

I have to say If I Burn takes the cake for me. But I couldn't include the other songs because I don't consider them new, lol. Take the Pill was my favourite from the live songs, and I really love what she did with the studio version. I relate to it the most actually, because the rest of the songs are largely related to AfWVG but Take the Pill still applies to modern psychiatry almost perfectly.

One Foot is also a favourite, but again not a new one for me. I cried when I saw her perform it live, just what I needed to hear at the time.

I LOVE Scavenger. Sorry. But I do. I loved how I thought instantly of Dr. Stockhill from the first line, I didn't even need the red flags later in the lyrics. It's so devilish, very unsettling. It's what I'm most anxious to see, the actor cast as Dr. Stockhill singing this solo. It would be an awesome part to play. Twisted, but awesome. It did change my view of him a little more. Like, I didn't quite think of him as THAT bad. Just bad. "It isn't your kisses that I'm after but I'll take them." Eek.

Umm. So. Overall, adore the album. tl;dr, favourite is If I Burn, least is I Don't Understand (maybe if it was a true duet, I'd like it more :P I just couldn't get into it)
