So I've become really interested in incorporating chin ups in my workout , but I don't know how much sets I should be doing for a beginner . I could barely do 17 chin ups non stop ;o

It also depends on what other exercises you are doing. How do you structure your routine? What other back exercises are you doing? But at first, keep the sets and reps low and gradually build up as you develop greater back strength.

First of all, may I congratulate you? 17 is pretty legit.

Now, sets of 12 or 15 sounds like a good start. If you want to be able to do more in one go, it's best to get comfortable at a level right below your limit, so 15 is a good number. try to do other exercises to work your back too.

I really believe in added weight to excersise. so maybe you can say add 5kg (I just tie round my waist) do as many as you can but properly. stop aim for 2 less on the next set and stop. remove weight and go as many as you can stop max 2 minute rest and get as many as you can but properly and DO NOT STRAIN. repeat as you can say 3 /4 times a week, aim to build reps but again properly. Hope this helps

There's this guy that has a book - i think its called something like 7 Weeks to 50 Pullups, you might want to check it out. It starts off slowly. something like 5 sets of 5, alternating between pull ups and chin ups. then you build up to more. 17 is really pretty decent.

Starting slow prevents injuries later on, so take your time, but do it every day (leave one day for rest), keep consistent with the repetitions, and you'll do a great job.
