I am just wondering what the "cough test" is that a doctor gives to you. If you could explain what the doctor does that would be great. Also, what does it check for?

It is to check for hernias, which require surgery to fix and will cause difficulties with reproduction if left untreated.

He or she will probably have you remove your pants and lie down on the exam table. Then (s)he will take a gloved hand and touch some part of your scrotum and have you cough. I personally like the feeling of being completely exposed in front of someone. I hope this helps!

It's a check for hernia, which I quoted from WebMD:

A hernia occurs when an organ or fatty tissue squeezes through a weak spot in a surrounding muscle or connective tissue called fascia. The most common types are inguinal (inner groin), incisional (resulting from an incision), femoral (outer groin), umbilical (belly button), and hiatal (upper stomach).

Ultimately, all hernias are caused by a combination of pressure and an opening or weakness of muscle or fascia; the pressure pushes an organ or tissue through the opening or weak spot. Sometimes the muscle weakness is present at birth; more often, it occurs later in life. Poor nutrition, smoking, and overexertion all can weaken muscles and make hernias more likely. Anything that causes an increase in pressure in the abdomen can then cause a hernia, including obesity, lifting heavy objects, diarrhea or constipation, or persistent coughing or sneezing.

Usually what the doctors do is feel the scrotal area for symptoms, I hope that helps! :)

Doctor says pull down your pants puts a glove on holds your penis back with his thumb and two to three fingers on or around your balls asks you to turn and cough. The harder you cough the sooner it Id over. No big deal. I was worried before my first physical but really it only lasts a second or two and id over. Most don't really look just sorta touch it. If your really worried you can just ask to leave your bixers on. They normally don't mind
