I really really really love Halloween and haunted houses and that sort! I want to own a hunted house, be a Special FX artist for horror movies or at haunted houses, or work for a Halloween company that builds props and makes masks hand made. I love building props, I am in the process of building a Monswrt Mud grim reaper....he is 7' 7" tall and almost done. I love making props, but one night my mom told me that I shouldn't let Halloween "warp" me....I'm not rally sure what that means but I guess she doesn't really like me and all my Halloween stuff. It was right after I told her I wanted to start building some props for Halloween, and she seem disappointed. I think she just wants a normal kid, b I'm not normal at all! And I love it....but my mom just seemed upset and angry and disappointed like I crushed her dream of me growin up to be a successful normal man. But owning a haunted house is a very well paying job, like I could work for 3 months out of the year and have enough money to supply for my family and own a nice house......so ya.....what should I do?

Perhaps she doesn't consider it to be a "real job". If she doesn't support your goals then she is being a major bitch. Don't let her expectations make you unhappy.

Well follow your dream! If you really wanna become this, then do it! I mean who else will make the haunted houses creepy and scary, but fun for all of us? And maybe when it's not Halloween time, you also have another job. If your more into making props and stuff, how bout making props for movies? I bet they get paid a lot! So you can still also do scary movies and add your props you made, and also nice movies where you can use your artistic skills too!

Well, I think a good parent just wants to see their child happy, really. Sure she may not agree with what you're doing at first but, I think she'll eventually see that you really are happy doing what you're doing and respect that.

Do what you want to do. A lot of parents try to make their kid live the life they (the parents) want for themselves, instead of the life that the children want. Your mother needs to realize that the umbilical cord was cut 14 years ago. You are going to be an adult soon, and you are your own person. I think that is a great carreer choice and wish you the best of luck.

Sorry...I was kinda split half and half. I won't do it again! Lesson learned!
And thanks everyone, it's helped to hear what you all think. And I have considered building props and sets for movies, I'm planning in building the sets for plays in high school (in less than a month). I also want to be an architectural engineer. So I might do that for the other 9 months of the year...or I could combine them to design the most effiecient haunted house when it comes to use of space! So I could have the longest haunted house in America, but it wouldnt take up too many square feet! Ugh, so many possibilities and choices, I'll make the rig decision when im more mature.

Yeah, and if making stuff for Haunted Houses is your dream, then also have a job that you can do that kinda relates to it, like prop and set design. So then you can do that for a living all year round!

Yea i'm sure all parents have dreams of what they want their child to be when they grow up but you have to follow your dreams wherever they take you. Your 14 now and maybe in a few yrs you may change your mind and go a different direction. I think there are already too many people already unhappy with thier jobs you don't have to add to that so do your own thing

Ew, yeah I wouldn't give a damn what she wanted for your future. YOUR future not hers. And as long as you become successful, she should have NO problem with it. It's the 21st century, she need to get with it.

If it's your dream you should go for it no matter what others say, as it's your life that is affected.

If you like building props and creating special effects, then by all means you should pursue it. There's nothing wrong with what you're doing. If your mom wants to be disappointed, she can stay disappointed. It's selfish to make you do something you don't want to.

It's your life and you're choice. not their's. I know that kinda sounds harsh but its true. Don't let your whole life go by and look back and regret that you didn't do what you loved
