My suggestion is that the Member Forums and Diaries (or at least mine) are not able to be viewed my guests because I know that some of my family knows about this site and I'd prefer if they weren't able to read most of the posts that I put in there that has some personal content.

I don't think that's a bad idea, actually. I can sympathize with that since my mom knows about the site and knows that I use it.

Do it. Don't want no pedos looking through my shit.

Even though my diary sucks and has almost nothing personal, I'm for it.

I'm for this as well. Some members (including myself) use it as a diary/random rants, and I don't really think anyone who comes here needs to see it.

Yes please. guests shouldn't be able to go to the member forums

I think that you should request for the section not to be seen by guests. Because this is a public forum, but still you should be able to have your own privacy.

Just my two cents..

That would be a great idea if it's possible. That's the only reason I'm not posting anything overly personal in my diary. In my opinion it would allow people to feel more comfortable when posting and since people don't need to see them, I don't think it would be taking anything away from the site.

Go for it. A lil privacy can't hurt

It takes nothing at all but 2 seconds to make an account here. Its not a bad idea but blocking guests to the diaries just creates a false sense of security. If you don't want someone to see something its best not to post or make a private blog.

This.

While hiding the diaries to the general guest public I feel would only as Maverick said create a false sense of security. You can register in under a minute and therefore could gain access to the dairies after they register.

I ain't saying it is at all a bad idea but to be honest I don't see it preventing much and as Maverick said it creates a false sense of security. Again like Ant said just make a private blog.

I ain't against the suggestion but will it prevent anything in the long run?

to be honest, I wouldn't mind putting that up for you guys if that's something you would all agree with. Whether it takes 2 seconds or not, it takes me 2 seconds to privatize the forums and let the guests get more of the features when they join. It's advertised that we have diaries so they can view them when they join. I think it's a half and half security because yeah the guests won't see it, but members will, but that isn't really going to make a difference because they're members. So I don't mind doing it. I'll have a word and get it into action.

Well, I think it's a great idea, since a lot of people come here as guests anyway, so by us knowing that the majority of the active users (632 guests compared to 98 at the moment) cannot go through our diaries (which a lot of us do have sensitive information on) gives a lot of users a massive confidence boost about feeling more secure.

Making it a private blog means that you're strictly bound to only having your contacts seeing it, whereas as diary would allow the entire VT community to contribute. Just because you can register in a matter of minutes, or even seconds, doesn't really mean people will. I remember taking a long time before I registered, and I'm sure that loads of other people ghost around as guests.

Let's say somebody's parent knows their kid is on the site and peeks in once in a while to keep an eye on what they do online, but doesn't make an account. Said parent goes looking through their kids diary and sees some personal things that the child might not want their parent seeing. Now the kid is upset and annoyed and the parent is deep into the kid's secrets :P I think it's a good idea, some people get more personal in their diary's than others. You might not get too personal or have snooping parents so it doesn't do much for you; but for somebody who does get personal in their diary and has curious, snooping parents then this could be comforting and a nice feature for them.

Exactly, my sisters and brother know about this and my parents do as well and I'd much prefer that they didn't see some or most of those things on my dairy. And thanks if you are going to implement it.

Like I said Mike I ain't against the idea. I do see that point, snooping parents and all that. People might feel more secure when posting. I am not disagreeing with the suggestion. I am merely pointing out that in the long run all that it does protect us against is possibly snooping parents as teens can join and even older people can join if they lie or be careful.

Although we do have The White Padded Room where people can post help questions as that is members only.

Like I said if people want it, I ain't going to put up a fight it would be something nice to see, perhaps it would be nice to have more private places. I like the idea, I am just not sure if it is entirely necessary

Is there a way so that the whole Member Forums and Diaries section disappears to Non-Members, so parents or pedos don't even know of its existance? I mean, the whole "Member-Oriented Jazz" doesn't even show up at all (Big Void)?

Nope, it happened. (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=146427)

If you would like your Diary privatized from guests, PM Mike or Ronnie about it.
