If you talk to me personally, you know that I have problems falling asleep. It drives me nuts. I sent myself to go to sleep at 1. It's now 4.
I really don't know why I have such a hard time sleeping. I know, I'm struggling with a lot. But when I lay down in bed, I don't think about my parents, sexuality, or finding a girlfriend/boyfriend. I don't really think about anything, but my mind still races.
I end up getting frustrated that I can't fall asleep then go on the computer. It really is draining. :/

Is there a specialist I should be seeing about sleeping issues? Any medications to be looking out for? Anything? Please, tell me. It really just ruins my whole day when I don't get a goods night sleep.

Just watch golf on TV. I don't know anyone who manages to stay awake watching that.

On a serious note, it wouldn't hurt to see a doctor about it. Causes could range from anxiety and depression to your diet and fitness levels.

Your mattress or pillow could also be to blame for poor quality sleep.

I know you are kidding but i think that might actually work. :D

How long have you had trouble sleeping? is it a new thing or something you've always had? going to your doctor could be a good idea. i went to my doctor about it, and he was completely useless about it. But the chances are your doctor will be more useful than mine. i think, usually they'd try counselling type stuff before they'd try medication. maybe some kind of counselling thing might help with your mind never being able to shut off?

(being drunk to the point of passing out helps a lot. but its not something you can really do every day.)

I still can't sleep, but the most helpful thing i found is not having a digital alarm clock in your room, and not checking the time on your phone or anything. then you have no idea if you have been awake for 5 minutes or 5 hours. its just less frustrating. Also, this is supposedly the worst thing you can do, but since school is finished i am just sleeping whenever i feel like it. its better than nothing.

Pat, please go talk to a doctor about this. Your family doctor should know where to start, but (at least here anyway) Neurologists are also usually certified in sleep study and sleep medicines, so that might be something to look at as well in your area. My godfather is a Neurologist and he has said before that sleep medicine is something a lot of neurologists like to specialize in. I would ask the neurologist's office before making an appointment, though, because not all of them do.

First, go to a doctor if it's disrupting your every day life.

When I can't seem to ever fall asleep I take drowsy making sleeping pills (But I don't recommend it...that's abusing it?).

You need to stop sleeping during the day. When you sleep long hours at daylight it makes it THAT MUCH HARDER to fall asleep at night. Try not going to bed at all (I've done this) and stay up the best you can until the next night.

You dont have to rush to the doctor straight away

I used to have this problem. I think mines was due to stress before im moved but sometimes you can change it by having a more active life style and go to bed when you want to go to sleep.

Sometimes if you go to bed and watch tv or are on the computer your resting and that can mean your body is less tired

I'd probably stay up since I like golf :P

I'm going to ask my dad about scheduling an appointment with my doctor in the afternoon (since I'm up at 5 again)
I hope he prescribes me something instead of just telling me to 'have some warm milk' or something like that.

that's pretty much what they did with me. apart from telling me to drink warm milk, not watch tv before bed and stuff they did refer me to mental health services. But it took 6 weeks to get seen there. (and it still didn't help. i have been up for 2 days without sleep now.) I think if you do go to the doctor and he tells you to try all that kind of stuff just tell him that you already have. Don't leave till you get some kind of proper help. Good luck.

I know how annoying it is to not be able to sleep. I usually am up until 4:30-5 in the morning. Once i fall asleep, I wake up many times in the night due to pain. I end up getting up at like 10 or so. There isnt really anything I do for it so I just let it be.

Find Sleepy-Time Tea, works wonders...talk to your physician as well...I would also eat some foods high in starches as they contain traces of triptophen, the drug in turkey that makes you sleepy.

Imagine yourself in somewhere else or listen to relaxing sounds.

Listen to Yanni! Seriously, I would talk to someone about it. It could just be stress related, uncomfortable bed, or you might need drugs. I know my dad takes something called temazepam every once in a while to sleep. He gave me one on a flight once to help me sleep and it completely knocked me out. They couldnt get me awake for dinner. Good luck.

Get some melatonin. I take it every time I feel like i won't sleep and it works like magic! Its over the counter and it doesn't cost much
