How do I improve my reputation to positive instead of negative? :)

Not that it really matters, but just post constructively I guess. If people don't like what you're saying you'll get neg-repped. Rep is just a number, totally meaningless.

You make posts and people rep them based on their opinion of them, or just for lulz.

Reputation is meaningless, don't worry about it. If you make good posts, you'll be positive repped. I'm sure someone in this thread will even probably give you rep, which is why it is so meaningless. People give it away. It should be something earned, but it doesn't seem to work like that.

Users give other users reputation. If you want positive rep, contribute something worthwhile when writing a post, people will see it and give you rep. Overall rep's pretty meaningless, quite a lot of the time it's not given out for the right reasons and no one really judges people on how much reputation they've got. Otherwise it's just a popularity contest.
