Ok about a year ago I was depressed and had severe anxiety. my parents started noticing that I could barely sleep no matter how tired I was, I would just stay awake until I just passed out (literally). So they took me to a psychologist and found I had all this. after unsuccessful counseling they(the psychologist) put me on a low dose antidepressants. after a year I thought I could handle without it (beginning of June) and stopped taking it and now I'm starting to feel the same way.
By the easy I still have very little idea why but it may be because I watched my father almost beat my mother to death.
So has anyone else been in a similar in the same position without knowing why your depressed? Or does someone know what I should do to find out?Do you think I should try meds again?
Sorry for the long paragraphs:whoops: any help is greatly appreciated

Nobody cares how depressed you are so you might as well be happy
it sounds mean but its so true. find what makes you happy and just go with it

Seeing that after you stopped taking your medicine you started feeling this way again, I would suggest getting back on them. From reading that, I believe you might have mild clinical depression, which means the reason you are feeling depressed is because there is a chemical imbalance in your brain--that is not your fault, and it is the medicine's job to help fix that imbalance. Since you seemed to be happier on the medicine, that is what leads me to believe you might have mild clinical depression, and again I would suggest getting back on the medicine. It is also clear to me that watching your father beat your mother has also affected you psychologically, and I would definitely suggest talking to a counselor about it if you haven't already.

Dude, you obviously don't know anything about clinical depression. It is a real medical condition where one's brain has a chemical imbalance-basically the chemicals which are responsible for allowing someone to feel happy AREN'T THERE, unlike in normal people. So please stop being so quick to judge something like this, because there could be a real medical condition behind it. I have clinical depression. Just "finding what makes you happy and going with it" doesn't work if you have clinical depression, because the chemicals in your brain are screwed up.

It isn't always easy to pinpoint exactly why you are feeling the way you are. If you were diagnosed by a professional, then they know more than I do, or anyone here really. Even that one event, no matter how traumatic it may have been, could cause something like this. It isn't in your control, but it is in your control to fix things. I don't have any personal experience with any anti-depressants so I don't really know the side effects or anything that goes along with them. But all they really do is mask the problem. You have to get to the root of the depression, and go from there. If you feel better on the medication, then go for it. But along with that, see what you think is really causing all this.

As the poster above me said, you clearly don't know your way around clinical depression. It isn't always in their control, so to judge someone like this, is just wrong.

im not judging anybody and your right i dont know about clinical depression, i didnt mean to offend anyone but its true. i feel bad for all youve been through but there are people with way worse problems then you so you should be greatful that you have sort of an average life. and i am truly sorry about your mom. but if treatment isnt working then you should really look deep inside, maybe from your past or whats going on right now and you will realize why you are so depressed. there is always a reason for everything and there is a way you can help yourself

if you are depressed then you really don't have an average life. saying stuff like other people have it worse than you to someone who is depressed is probably the worst thing you can say. it's no one's fault that they are depressed, its a chemical imbalance in your brain. Not something you have any control over. and its really really hard to do anything about it if you are depressed. just getting out of bed can be hard.
OP, i think you are supposed to cut down on antidepressants gradually, not just stop taking them, so it would probably be a good idea to go back on them again. You probably need to go back and see your doctor again. also if you have witnesed a really traumatic event then it could be that you have PTSD? i have that, never being able to sleep and having really bad anxiety are part of that. i'm sorry you are having such a hard time.

Seems like you had a bit of a relapse when you got off your medication. You might want to go back to counseling, and getting back on medication.
And like some of the others said, depression isn't about who's problems are worse. Telling someone they shouldn't be sad because someone else has it worse makes about as much sense as telling someone else they shouldn't be happy because someone else has it better. The severity of ones problems have nothing to do with it. It's not about how bad you have it. It's about you, and how you deal with it. With the right attitude and the right people around you, you can get through this.
