Heya guys!
So, pretty much- I'm gonna be spending more time in the swimming pool the next few months, but I don't really know any strokes to be a 'better' swimmer. I just doggy paddle or whatever :P
Like, I know what the breastroke and whatever is, but the problem is that I don't really have good arm/leg coordination.
Where you guys come in is... How can I learn the different strokes and make my arms and legs work together better and be a better swimmer?

I'm spending more time in the pool since it's a good form of exercise and a good way to kill time and yada yada. :P

Thanks in advance! :D

There are four basic strokes, freestyle, back(stroke), breast(stroke), and butter(fly). I found some decent instructional videos.

Most people favor freestyle

Back is pretty meh in my opinion

I can't do breast... Not well anyway

Most people hate butterfly, I love it personally.

Well yes, as the others said, there are four basic strokes being Butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. Most people find breaststroke being the easiest, so perhaps start there, although if you are not co-ordinated, perhaps freestyle is better, because you do not move in unison.
Get a kicking board and practice the kicking behind the stroke... that should help with the basics.

Pretty much just watch those videos and have fun :) you might want to consider getting swimming lessons if you really want to swim... you have no idea what a valuable asset knowing how to swim is... It opens up a whole new world of sporting opportunities!

Try asking a lifeguard. Here in FL, they need to be proficient in the freestyle stroke.

Joey, gracias for finding those videos. They do help me out a little bit, by at least showing how everything is done. :D

I'm alright with kicking in my opinion, like, I can use my legs and get me around, but it's adding the arms and the motion that stumbles me.

To be honest, I think I'm gonna take my next paycheck and probably invest in swim lessons at the Y or something.
I've heard that swimming is a great tool, which is why I wanna get into it. I doubt I'll ever be on a swim team though. :P

Again, thank you everyone for the quick answers and advice! I really appreciate it. :D
