Hello,

Recently me and several friends discussed what we though cause a person
to have a specific sexuality.

One of my friends Amy, said that maybe we are all born bisexual and as we grow up we are influence by society to choose a specific sex to be attracted to.

I though it was a silly idea, but lately it occurred to me that think could be true it does make sense in a way.

So I decided to come on here to see what you guys think.
So what are your thoughts on Amy's idea and what do you think determines someone's sexual orientation.

Hmm very perplexing. Quite an Idea that I never thought of. I'd say that sounds somewhat legit but not quite. To me your just born either gay str8 or Bi. But her idea isn't exactly false though. No one really knows the 100% full on truth and I don't think anyone will. x3 But it's still not a bad thought if you ask me.

That belief is actually called "Innate Bisexuality" and it was proposed by Sigmund Freud.

I don't know that I agree with the theory, but then again I don't really know what does cause people to be bi, straight or gay.

Having just read an article on the subject it is something that may be possible in my opinion.

What about as a derivative theory, what if humans are as a species programmed to only reproduce.
(As apposed to be attracted to any sex, because genetics could be seen as random, and therefore it would be the best intention to reproduce, and it just happens that it is only possible with the opposite sex)

and then we are born, the innate bisexuality being the open desire for comfort and affection as a child, which develops biasly towards and into the sexuality during puberty, possibly due to environmental factors.
Just an alternative possibility I thought of. Who know's. Maybe I over thought this; heck it was an interesting thread. :D
