Who here is currently running Windows 8? Right now, I am posting from my Windows 8 RC computer and I have to say I am loving the whole Metro experience. So who else has it and what do you think?

I would run Windows 8 on this netbook, but metro apps do not run in a 1024x600 resolution, and when you force 1024x768, everything looks stretched. My laptop thats getting fixed runs it, but when I get it back I'll be uninstalling it, since it's not the actual release.

I have it running with a Dual Boot. Its different. It takes a little bit getting used to but once you do its good. I like the metro apps.

What happens when the full version is released? Do I have to uninstall or something? Or will it ask me for a new product code? How exactly does this work? (So many questions :D)

Generally, you would need to either download an official copy, or buy one in the store. I believe that the new price will either be 20 or 30 US Dollars, which is a huge drop from the $100+ it used to be. Just run the installer, and it should just install right over Windows 7 or Vista, without a problem. It's probably best to do a backup though.

I was told you can also upgrade the release preview to the actual release as well, after you have purchased it.

I ran the RC and hated it. It is a poor attempt at forcing an interface designed for tablets and phones in the desktop users throats. A shame, because there are a couple interesting technical improvements under the hood. Most of the Metro apps included are way behind their equivalent in Windows 7. And no way to organize several concurrent tasks on the screen ? Please, even Windows 1.0 was able to do that.
If the final release is similar to the RC - and it is very likely to be - then it is going to be a harsh, harsh world for Windows users.

I'm not and i truly don't want to. I don't like the slate metro look. And the whole merging pc with tablet doesn't get my attention either. I don't like the user interface at all, so unless they make a major overhaul, im staying with W7.

I have the ISO image, but no DVD's or flash drives to install it onto my desktop. However, I installed it on a virtual machine and I like it :)

I don't think I would buy Windows 8 because I have a Mac and it would be very weird to run Windows in a Mac :D

Usually when the final product comes out, you are not able to upgrade from the release preview yo the final version. Idk why not, but if i remember correctly there were some workarounds that were made available so you could upgrade from the release preview.

Why? Because the RC was free, but the final product is usually not :)

It told me it couldn't connect to the internet when I went to install it.
As far as I am concerned, it can go fuck itself if it won't even find my internet connection.
(And yes, my Ethernet card is compatible.)

I think its OK, but it was designed for touch screen so its not very handy for laptops because of all the clicking and dragging which would be a lot easier on a touch screen.

I have installed as my third bootable os to play around with but honestly wasn't a big fan of it for my desktop. Maybe I'm just super used to 7 now. I think I'd really like it for a tablet but already have an iPad.

I mainly a mac user but use windows 7 all the time on my mac for things like games, don't hate it's a Mac Pro and it plays games just perfect, anyway i decided to try windows 8 and i just don't like it, i don't like how they have taken the start menu away, i am not a fan of the metro UI, i can understand this on tablets with a touch screen but i am not a fan on a normal computer. I think microsoft are trying to merge the compter and tablet (Desktop and Mobile OS's) to fast and taking one giant leap and i think for most people will not upgrade, also dev's will have to optimize their apps with metro to make it work properly.

I haven't used Windows 8 much since it keeps crashing. I don't think I have enough RAM to run it in a virtual machine.
For the brief time that I did use it, it felt a lot like an embedded operating system. I'm not sure how Microsoft can expect people to use an OS like that full time on their non-tablet computer. They need to do what Apple does and have an OS for their mobile devices and another one for computers.

Even though I have a Mac, I like running Windows 8 in VMWare Fusion.
I think it is better than 7 because it has an app store, runs faster and uses the cloud. But sometimes it can be a pain to have to go to the seperate start menu, I wish they would have kept the desktop one as well. The metro UI might be good on tablets and phones, but I don't like it as much on a computer. They are trying to blend the Mobile devices with computers a bit fast, and most people won't appreciate that. I would never trade OS X for it though.

Actually windows 8 will have a desktop mode from wht I've heard, the metro is just simply a Home screen. and that gets me wondering what is in store with windows 9 when they release that in a few years. and i disagree, I hink it is the right time to start merging the mobile world with the Computer world. but of course they can't merge it too much at first. that will take time.
Look at ubuntu, they made a version of they're OS to run on Android but can also run on a desktop simultaniously. its only a matter of time before they start integrating desktop computers with tablets and smartphones fully.
Before we know it there could be an iMobile computer that is powered merely by the iphone which may run Mac OSX by then.
