I was wondering is anyone had stress induced tics not caused my a severe mental illness like OCD or Turrets. I pull my hair constantly when I'm upset, and I chew my lip, hard, and have had stiches from me biting clear through my bottem lip. Because I'm double jointed, I can pop my joints in and out of place at will, and I do it rather often with my thumb. Anyone else go through stuff like this?

I've been meaning to bring this up really. I've been experiencing them for a while, a few months maybe, mostly violent head jerks, sometimes hand or leg jerks as well. It's really annoying when you're with people and they look at you like you're crazy but I don't have turrets so I assume it's stress induced. Don't know if that was the kind of thing you were looking for?

I don't have any as severe as those but I have a few nervous tics. I nibble on the back of my wrist, rub my hand through my hair, rub the back of my neck and pick at my clothing; to name a few of the ones I do most often. Lol; I thought it would be pretty easy to tell when I'm nervous because of these but apparently it's not... Well, according to friends, teachers and a few others.

My tics are more voluntary, as in I know when they're doing to happen and I can stop them I try. I don't know if mine may progress into involuntary movements, ect. but that really worries me. Have you seen a docter for them?

I stutter a lot, I don't know if it's my confidence or some sort of speech impediment only started during puberty although nobody ever say's anything about it. :(

No, I figure if my parents aren't worried then neither should I be. Also, I get twitches of my mouth, usually the left, they tend to last longer.

tic/tik/
Noun:
A habitual spasmodic contraction of the muscles, most often in the face.

Most of these don't sound like tics to me. They just sound like nervous habits.

These do sound like tics however.

I have a variety of tics which come and go, and I believe I have tourettes. My tics can include eye blinking, eyebrow raising, sniffing, ocasional humming, heading nodding and movements in different parts of my body. So far I have seen a GP, a paediatrician and a psychologist, and I am waiting to see a psychiatrist then hopefully I will find out what's wrong with me.
