i don't think you are required, but you should remember that she/he is ALWAYS there for you and you shouldn't be afraid to go see her/him

I've never heard of counsellors being mandatory, more they're their for support for anyone who should need it, they offer more expertise than teachers in the area and often have set says with drop in times for anyone to go along.

If you ever do need some emotional support just remember that the counsellor is there, I doubt you'll be required to go but I don't think you should dismiss the idea of ever going just incase.

Well, at my school we have what is called a "School Social Worker" which is like a school guidance counselor, except they are more qualified to deal with issues outside of school work... e.g. family issues, depression, sexuality confusion. But I'm sure a guidance counselor would be alright too. I'd recommend it. I have talked to both a guidance counselor and a school social worker and they've been a great help to me.

You can go if you feel you need to. You usually have to go once so he/she can meet you.

It's not as individualized as personal counselors. And a word of advice, under state law, it is required that counselors report any suicidal students to the police or authorities. So if your thinking of suicide, only tell your counselor if you want to go to a mental hospital. Apparently some repped me saying not to say that cause it'll scare them. But I'm just saying it so they know what will happen.

But if your contemplating suicide, yes see a counselor so you can get help from a mental hospital. They will help you. I'm not saying not to talk to them. I'm just wanting people to know that if you tell a counselor, under state law they are required to tell the police. If they do not and your commit suicide, they are at risk of being an accomplice to a suicide, which will have them go to prison for a very Long time. So no matter how close they seem to you. I doubt they will risk prison life and you die. Than keeping their Job, and you stay alive. Fuck, no one can handle facts.
