If your voice cracks, does that come right before your voice lowering? And if my voice started cracking about 1 1/2-2 months ago, can anyone plz gimme an estimate of when my voice will lower? (Not exactly because I know you can't tell me that, but just like, just a simple estimate.) Today, it cracked like 2-3 times in one sentence (That happened quite a few times, is this an indication of anything?) Thanks.

Your voice 'cracks' in response to your newly growing vocal cords (voice is produced when the air causes them to vibrate, like the strings on a guitar or the reed in a saxophone). So, if it happens infrequently, it still indicates they've begun to change, and it's just a matter of time until it deepens more consistently. Hang in there!

Your voice takes time to fully lower. How long it'll take for you is anyone's guess! You might not even notice it when it gets deeper. Just wait for it to go - we can't tell you :P

My voice has been cracking for about 5 months. My voice started deepening a few weeks after it started cracking. And sorry if I'm "hijacking" this thread, but I would like to know how long it takes for your voice to finish cracking and deepening. As I've said before it's been cracking and deepening for about 5 months, and it would be cool if it would stop before school started in a few weeks...

It usually takes at least a few years. My voice hasn't changed completely although the first time it got crazy was when I was 12. So it might fully change when I'm 15, 16, or 17. It really all depends!
And it's fine if you ask questions relating directly to the thread, or that might come up later in the thread, as long as you don't completely change the subject or make everyone focus on you :P

Dang, a few years? Why does it have to take so LOOOOOOOOOOONG. :(
But is that how long it takes for it to stop deepening, or to stop cracking? I really hate the cracking, lol.

Lol, cracking doesn't last that long, only a few months :P My voice was really bad when I was 12, and now I'm 14 and there's only a few times that it cracks monthly, although I'm pretty sure it's not done yet. Like I said, it really all depends. Hormones are what cause your body to grow, and when to do a lot daily things...and those doctors who specialize in the study of hormones get paid a lot :P
Nobody can really tell you when anything for you will happen, so I don't know when your voice will drop fully.

Ok, lol I got another question. Will it drop like just instantly, or will it be over the course of days to weeks?

It varies from person-to-person, although it doesn't all happen in a week :P
With some guys, their voice drops quickly (several months to a year), and some voices change over a longer period of time, such as a few years.
Voice cracking only occurs for the first couple of months. After that, your voice continues to lower (since your vocal cords and voice box are still growing), and your voice reaches it's end pitch when puberty ends, because all growth (including your voice box) stops. You might not notice that it lowers, although it does, just gradually =]

Wow that's a lot longer than I thought lol. So overtime it just slowly gets lower and lower until it stops at the end of puberty...wierd. I did not know that! So does your voice crack while your voice is slowly getting lower? Or is that only before it starts lowering in those first few months?

Nah, cracking doesn't last for all that long. See, your larynx (voice box) grows just like everything else in your body. When your voice cracks, your larynx gets a growth spurt. The reason that your voice is cracking is because your brain isn't used to controlling the bigger voice box.
There might be slight cracking after your brain has gotten used to the effects of the growth spurt, since the larynx is still growing (though it's unlikely that it'll get another growth spurt). It won't be as hard to control your voice, so they'll be less cracking when you're farther into puberty. =]

Alright, so uhhh, my voice used to crack a lot but kinda in uneven patterns over the last 2-3 months. But just like a week ago or so, it has been starting to only crack about once every other day for only like an hour or so...is that normal? Do you think I'm still in the time before voice lowering? Or does this less frequent voice cracking mean it's starting to deepen? Srry I have no idea :)

You're not done with puberty, so your voice is gonna lower still
The less cracking obviously means that your brain is getting used to your voice box's growth spurt, so it'll continue to grow for now and there will probably be less cracking until you have another growth spurt (you might another growth spurt...who knows?)

So it just goes in spurts? Not just even gradual growth? And if so, how long is each spurt? (Approximately)

No, it doesn't just grow in spurts
Not just even gradual growth?
Yes, your voice box grows gradually, but it may experience a growth spurt at least one time or more

)
No way to tell. Varies so much from person to person! :P

You may not crack now. It also may come later.

Just wondering, well I know, it's "impossible to tell" as you (MoveAlong) said earlier. But can someone give me like an average time for a voice to lower? Like about how long should it take on average, and when should you be able to notice a difference?

Yeah its all gradual really with the cracks being just...Well I dont know.
My voice is beginning to crack a bit but one thing Ive noticed is that it stays the same pitch immediately after...lol
You will notice a difference...when the difference between your voice and your voice before it started breaking is noticeable...

I really don't know. My voice has changed dramatically, and I don't know whether it's because I'm lowering it myself (CHOCOLATE RAIN!) or because of my hormones. You could see results in months, years, or whatever.
It may be hard to notice a difference. You could notice a difference one day, and then the next day be back where you were. You could get a dramatic difference (cracking) or a small difference. Either way
But I have heard that the full change takes until puberty is ended. You can wait for more responses as this is all I know.

Alright, thanks. Because yeah, it kinda sucks being a sophomore and having a high voice. :(

Yeah I know except I haven't a clue what a sophomore is
I'm 14 in November...so I'm in "8th grade" (year 9)
And I have a really high voice
My voice has barely broken at all and my voice is naturally very high anyway, I have a higher voice than a lot of the girls in my class :(

lol sophomore=second year in high school (I'm young for my grade) But yeah, it sucks pretty badly. My voice isn't terribly high, it's just higher than most other guys.
