so my family is really big on dogs, my mum was a dog handler for the air force, im going into the air force as a dog handler, we have two dogs at the moment and my mum has won multiple obedience and tracking awards with previous dogs. One of the things i can not get my head around is the restriction of dog breeds. For example here in australia certain breeds are restricted which means they can not be sold, given away or accquired and must be neutered. In public they must be muzzled, wear a special colour and may not be handled by any persons under the age of 18. at home you must post signs around your house warning of the dog and if you move house or the dog is moved the council must be notified.
I do not understand why this is neccesary. Dogs themselves are not vicious creatures; yes they will bite if tormented or annoyed and they can get a bit rowdy, but the breed itself is not at fault. One pit bull may have been raised in a way which makes it violent and un controllable but another may be trained and raised by good handlers who make sure the dog does not hurt anyone. It is how the dog is raised that makes it a dangerous dog.
Have you ever noticed how most small dogs are always barking and going off at strangers? This means that the dog hasnt been trained well and if it was a bigger dog, it would be dangerous. but since it is small no one cares.

so my question, do you think certain dog breeds should be restricted, e.g. pit bull, dogo argetino.

No and it's simply pathetic and horribly disgusting in my mind that we as humans feel we have the right to try and eradicate a breed because of its "bad rep."
The pitbull was America's mascot for WWI.
Our President Roosevelt had one.
Weela is a pit that has saved multiple lives of many species.

And America has also turned its back on this breed because of the evil people that has owned them. Sure dogs can have an aggressive temperament but it can be controlled or trained out. Owners are responsible for their dog, I hate how we blame the poor animal. I am strongly against breed banning, restricting and eradicating. It breaks my heart.
