Its release date has not been announced, nor has Apple even hinted at the new features available on its eagerly awaited iPhone 5.
But that hasn't stopped opportunistic sellers on one Chinese online bidding site cashing in on demand for the new smartphone.
Sellers on Taobao are advertising the phones for up to 7,500 yuan, complete with mock-up pictures and purported technical specifications, and already accepting pre-orders.
Some are taking deposits of around 1,000 yuan (£100) for the new phone, but one seller, 'Dahai99888', who started accepting pre-orders this week, is asking for full payment upfront, at a 6,999 yuan (around £700).

The hotly anticipated iPhone 5 is widely expected to be released sometime between August and October this year, although Apple itself has been tight-lipped about it.
Sources have said the amartphone would have a bigger screen than previous models, while Taiwanese media reported the phone's voice recognition software, Siri, would have more powerful functions.
Taobao sellers have said they planned to buy the iPhone 5 in Hong Kong or the United States and then bring it to mainland China. Apple products are often available in Hong Kong before they are released on the mainland.
The sellers could not promise a specific delivery

Are they sure this is legit? Because I've heard some sketchy fake Apple products have gone on sale in China, and this sort of sounds like a scam to me, but I could be wrong. Dailymail is also a little off sometimes.

I wouldn't trust buying anything direct from China. If I buy products from there, they need to be through a trusted source like a Phone Company...

I do admit, that does sound like a scam.

Checked the Apple CN website, nothing. Most likely a scam.
