Does the soul exist?

What people refer to as the soul or spirit is in my opinion just your brain. I don't see why anybody would think differently so if you do I'd love it if you share some reasons why you believe the soul is something more and not just the brain(preferably some logical reasons).

According to Taoism, you don't have a "soul" per se, but your consciousness, that sense of existing and comprehending an environment is eternal. When you die, that conciousness (which is essentially who you are) is recycled back into the universe and exists independently of a body.

What, so its just floating about? doing what? not being sarcastic, i do really want to know.

I've heard people say that energy can never be destroyed, only changed, as a sort of way of explaining that your soul or whatever is still there even when you are dead. (i didn't take chemistry or physics so i don't know if thats true - about the energy)

Personally i don't think there is such a thing as souls. but i haven't exactly put a lot of thought into it.

It's true that energy can't be created or destroyed, but there is no energy that makes up your conscienceness. Energy isn't some mystical thing, in science, it's simply the ability to do work. It exists in many forms e.g. thermal, electric, kinetic, chemical, ect. and can be transformed between them. There is no life energy that could be a soul.
