I'm starting out on portraits for others, and once I've bought my remote and my new tripod arrives, I want to do some self-portraits.

But I can never get the lighting/set up right for the face..I havent done it for a while so thats why but still . Especially on myself, my cheekbones don't come out too well, so how do you get around that, makeup? A different shutter speed? I dont know.

Also ,monochrome, are there any major differences?

What post editing do you do, I have photoshop.

Thanks x

Lighting. Also, avoid going with overly wide focal lengths that will distort your image.
Shutter speed has no effect on composition.

Photoshop is great. As a standalone program, there isn't anything I'd consider better.
