My 18 year old brother has been badly addicted to drugs and alcohol for the past 3 years. His condition is getting worse as each day goes by. If mom or I try to stop him he tries to beat us up and leaves the house. I heard that Bellwood Health services in Toronto offers good treatment programs. Has anyone here used their services. If so can you please tell me your reviews.

Sounds like he has more than addiction, but anger issues. I think you should just send him there, anything to try and get him better. I don't live in Canada, but I think any treatment will be good for him.

I've never heard of Bellwood Health but I have dealt with the Humber River Regional Hospital and have family that has gone to CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health) in Toronto. Both are very experienced with alcohol and drug addictions, well known, have good reputations. CAMH is very busy typically but it's well worth getting in contact with. Humber River Regional Hospital could definitely help you to. I've stayed there and they have an entire building devoted to psychiatric and addiction problems.
If you think he's a danger to you, the smartest idea is to call 911 or if he's a danger to himself, to get him to the nearest ER for immediate help.
I live in Toronto so my contact into is on my page if you want any more help if I can offer any.

List the places and situations that make you want to smoke and drink. Whether it's a fight with your spouse or a nerve-wrecking interview, understanding what triggers the need for a drink or a cigarette will help you take precautions so you know how to better react when those situations arise.
Keep away from risky situations. According to the Addiction and Recovery Organization, four main situations can put you at risk for abusing alcohol and other addictive substances. These are described as HALT: hungry, angry, lonely and tired. By recognizing these emotions, you're then able to deal with them as they appear instead of hiding behind a drink or cigarette as a way of dealing with them.
Come up with a series of new responses to the old situations. For example, if you tend to smoke when you're stressed, think of other things you can do in those times, such as going for a walk, taking a bath or getting a massage. Don't wait for stress to hit before you come up with options. Instead, make a list of things you can use as healthy alternatives, so you have a number of options to choose from.
