Why do you guys brag?

Why can't guys just be happy with sex? Why do you feel the need to go tell everyone?

Not all guys do; and I've known more than one girl to enjoy telling her friends how good her recent sex was too so I don't think it's really a male only thing, although, admittedly, guys seem to do it a lot more often. Really though, a lot of guys do brag (especially younger guys), but a fair few don't; enough that it's not really fair to put the whole human-male species in that category. As for why, fuck knows; in my group of friends the only person my best mate ever told the first time he got laid was me, it wasn't as if he spread it around the school and the majority of my mates don't brag about their sexual activities either; although I guess the reason a lot of guys do is mainly pride or confidence, I guess. Where I was raised being a virgin was considered a bad thing, which was stupid, but ya know. Getting laid was and still is to a certain degree hugely glamorized; when a dude does it it's been built up to be so big it's become, or at least used to be some kind of huge achievement; something you get an overwhelming urge to tell people about... Or at least that's some of my perspective on why; although obviously this is hugely changed by culture, but I imagine it's quite near the same in mainstream America too.

By the way; I think this goes in Girls and Boys; girls aren't allowed to post in this part of the forum, same goes with the girls section with boys, only exception goes to transgenders, I believe... Don't quote me on this, I'm still new. :]

Most of us who get lucky will go and tell their friends, but unless him or his friends are really popular then probably only his friends know.

it's a big achievement for a male, I guess it's just how guys work. I know girls are usually more laid back, and aren't about to go tell their friends that they just had sex, because it would be embarrassing! But guys work in just the opposite way.

Yeah, this seems to be some sort of straight-boy macho thing. There's only one person that knows I am sexually active, and that's my best friend ('cuz he's the one I do it with, LoL). OMG, if my parents ever found out, I would just die of embarrassment (and probably get grounded too).

As Peter said it seems that it is more what str8 guys do than gay,...although maybe because the gay aspect isn't something someone unless they are out wants to advertise...but it isn't all guys...my uncle told me once believe about 50% of what you hear guys "brag" about and then about 1/2 of them are lying anyway...some guys think it makes them more of a "man" to let others know that they are sexually active...and those are usually the ones that don't feel good about themselves...no excuses, unfortunately just the way things seem to be

well who decides if you have sex or not? 99 percent of the time its the girl, so for a male to get a girls permission its an accomplishment, and like with all accomplishments most people want recognition. Not all guys do, but there is a lot.

Well, most of the guys I know dont tell EVERYONE. They just tell their friends to keep them on the level, and they make the mistake of telling the person thatll spread that sh*t around. I wouldnt tell anyone that I had sex except maybe my really close friends.

Simple phrasing of a complicated question, and youre generalizing by saying all guys do this. Its probably for the same reason we remark and ask each other about dick sizes so much on this site. Many guys are afraid that they may not be normal or cool in the light of other guys, and so we need to tell each other that. Also it helps establish dominence, like an alpha wolf, except much looser structure. If someone has gone out and done this experience he is more knowledgable than the others, and so hes a better leader and people will look up to him. Its sort of different but that my basic explanation of the male social hierarchy in high school
