In many forums under this section I have seen the same. "COD", "Minecraft", "BF3", etc.
Is there anyone who games underground? Plays a MUD or 2. Plays F2P games; FPS preferably. Games not that many know yet are still of excellent quality.
If so, list anything that I could give a try if I haven't already.
Again, none of the big titles "Army of Two" and so on.

i know what you mean but why does it matter if they're over played? so what if they're mainstream its normally a sign of them being fairly good

I used to play BZFlag (http://bzflag.org/)(probably available in your Linux distribution's repositories) for a while, until my computer decided it didn't like that game anymore(it became slow, and crashed a lot).

My advice is to go to Steam and look in their F2P games for good FPS games. You'd be very surprised how many they have now, and TF2 is still an amazing game. As for how P2P games go, Killing Floor is a good zombie-wave based game. Only $10 now.

Whoa I swear I've seen this before! Definitely will try it out.

Yes, fairly. Wouldn't you agree most have too much fame for what they really play for. The reason I don't play so much mainstream is because I don't play games for their fame and only stick to THAT simple game to let others now I'm part of that community, I play multiple games, famous or not and judge them on the way they play, in-game options, how well any cash shop is set along with experience needed to rank up or level up and so on.
Not only because it's out there.

Thanks I'll try out Killing Floor. And I'm sure you've heard of A.V.A already since it's starting to be introduced and played through Steam. The F2P's that I've played for a while are now getting their name out there also.

I play AVA its really fun but earning money takes time in the game and all the weapons are expensive. Combat Arms is ok but i play it. But Blacklight Retribution is AWESOME its got great graphics, gameplay and you can customize your guns as much as you want.
And get Killing Floor, it has modded servers with hundreds of players and weapons its very fun!

Oh no, earning money in A.V.A I found easiest and fastest than any other F2P FPS. You may not have played many matches. The weapons are not expensive at all, at the rate you earn money, it's perfectly fine.
At a very low rank I saved up to 150k Euros and bought 3 weapons with Euro left over and still buying weapons.
In A.V.A you can also customize your weapons [almost] as much as you want. Compared to others, it has god customization. As does Brink.
Combat Arms was excellent when I played it around 11, 12 years old along with Darkorbit. Sadly both Combat Arms and DO strive for money rather than focusing on their game play or for player satisfaction. I left both.
I've played BR for a bit, not as much as I wanted but it was pretty awesome. I don't care about graphics but if we were to be on that topic, A.V.A also has amazing graphics.

Haha. I play a lot of Demolition, some Annihilation, a lot of Stadium and some Escort sometimes. I start out with Stadium then go to Annihilation, then Sniper Gallery then play Demo for the rest of my time. I don't play ALL day, but get 10k - 15k after each time I play. I have G36, HK416, SG556, M4A1 MK.3, FR-F2, SV98, M24, TPG-1, UMP45, AKS74U, MP5, and Beretta92FS as secondary.

Ever think that all of those games are..I don't know...good, or something? Hell, that is why people talk about them so much. I don't know, probably my imagination or some of that bad acid.

By that logic, Twilight is a good book. That's why people talk (or rather "talked"? I dunno, all the hype surrounding it seems to have died down a considerably) about it so much.
Popular =/= Good

Dustforce, N+, Bastion, Frozen Synapse, Alice:Madness Returns, Dawn Of War 2, Nation Red, Darksiders, Defence Grid: Awakening, Black and White 2, Rayman: Origins, Outland. I have more, just can't remember. None of these are fps's, but they are brilliant games nonetheless. There is Killing Floor, but that could be counted as popular I guess, still pretty fun.
There is a reason those games are popular, it means they've done something right. Just because something is popular doesn't make it bad.

Thanks for the list.
And of course not because they are popular doesn't make them bad. The game play does.

Indie titles on steam are great selections to look for when it comes to underrated games, but I'd like to point out the game "Avencast" great, solid game. Worth at least checking out.
