View Full Version : That Old Saying... "Growing boys need their sleep"

Well, boys going through puberty go through a stage where they start to get taller right? I've gotten a lot taller since puberty. But, I do often stay up late, since I'm on summer holiday and there's no school. However, when I stay up late, I wake up later than I would if I went to bed earlier, so is this still "disrupting" my sleep? Does it really matter how late you stay up as long as you still get the recommended number of hours of sleep every night? And, does it effect your growth, by staying up late?

It doesn't affect it in any major way, in fact lots of teens have erratic sleep schedules and grow fine!
As far as how you feel, your moods, and how good of a sleep you're getting, it does matter when you go to sleep - you should get the reccomended hours of sleep and you should stay on a schedule, such as go to bed at 10 and wake up at 8. It's less stressful and you get a better night's sleep :D
But no, there's nothing to worry about man, it doesn't affect your growth in any major way.

I wouldn't have thought that it would effect your growth majorly (i.e. anything to wrry about) if you're not following your regular sleep pattern. I normally sleep fairly erratic hours in the holidays, noramlly about 7 hours and sometimes up to 9, and I'm still growing ok so I don't think you should worry about anything.

Yuppers, I gotta agree with Zach on this, too! Golly, we're lucky to have him!
The body tends to regulate itself when it comes to sleep, so if you stay up late and sleep late that's ok. it's only a prob if you burn it from both ends and not get enough sleep (usually about 8 hrs.).

If you stay up later you obviously are going to sleep in later. It's not a disruption. As long as you get a decent amount of hours 6-10 ish you're fine. You can't expect to wake up at the same time in the morning if you stay up later because you body requires a certain amount of hours of sleep so it has to make up for the lost hours you spent staying up.

Hahaha. Wow, you sound a lot like me with some of your posts I've read. I stay up late and sleep in and my growth seems fine to me so I'd say there isnt a problem.
