Ever since I started going through puberty I have dramatically gained weight, but I have also gotten taller. I used to weigh about 120 pounds when I was in 5th grade, then I went up to 130 when I was in 6th, then I went to 140 in 7th then I went up to about 160 in 8th and then in 9th grade I shot up to about 170-175. I am 5'8" right now and I weigh about 175 pounds without any heavy clothing on or food in my stomach. I know that I am overweight, and maybe even almost obese, I'm not sure. I've stayed around 175 for quite a while, and have not gained weight, normally I would be gaining weight right now according to my recent pattern, have I reached my "maximum" weight? I eat healthy. I eat cereal almost every morning, and I eat at least one salad every day. I've recently started working out and lifting weights, and jogging. Even though I am overweight, and maybe almost obese, I look at myself in the mirror, and I honestly don't think I look very fat. I have a bit of a "tummy" if you know what I mean, and a few stretch marks (everyone has a few), but I really don't think I look like I'm overweight... So again, is there some kind of maximum weight a person can reach? (Of course you can get extremely fat by eating McDonalds every day or something) But is there a maximum weight one can reach on a regular, healthy diet?

(I don't really know where this is going... I think I kind of went off into a rant)

my fingers are beginning to cramp up from you! LOL! J/K, this is fun, not to worry (especially since i know the answers!).

To be 'obese' you have to be 30% over your maximium recommended weight. There are charts for this, you might google them and type in your height and it'll give you a 'recommended' weight range. 175 @ 5'8" doesn't sound obese to me.

It's good that you want to lose the weight, you'll feel better, look great, and live longer. Eating right is a good start, you're doing all the right things now, avoiding yucky McD's, eating veggies and salads, and exercising. Keep it up!

There is no 'maximium' you can weigh, go look around the next time you're in public, it's really gross how people let themselves go (especially in the summer when they give themselves permission to show more of themselves in the name of 'comfort'...ewwww!). however, with proper nutrition, a sensible, consistent exercise regimen, you'll hit what's called your 'set point' or 'sweet spot', which is a pretty consistent weight for yourself.

Ahh, okay, well I think I'm at the sweet point right now, as long as I keep it up.

as far as i know pueberty will nto effect the amount of fat in your body... if you weigh 175 at 5'8 and you dont think you look fat then a lot of that could be from muscle. like if you play a sport that has a lot of running or other such activities. If you want to lose weight basic principals are eat way better, no junk food at all and eat more healthy foods. And excercise. You can do everything from jogging to swimming but remember keep a steady fast pace no matter what your doing or else it will do no good. Also when you eat a salad make sure you do indulge on to much dressing. some dressings have a lot of fat in them. My suggestion is to look at the nutrition facts and see if what you are eating is actually healthy for you. If it is excercise more. and if you dont understand the nutrition info ask your parents to explain them better.

And as to the maximum weight thing. you can eat nothing but salad and still get fat. It all has to do with portions and what is in the food. eat smaller portions and dont snack inbetween meals. just have a small breakfast (healthy cereal none of that sugar crap like capn crunch or frosted flakes... try cheerios or special k) a medium lunch and a slightly larger dinner. And it is also good to eat earlier. Dont eat dinner at 8:00 at night. i think a good time for diiner is probably around 5-6 o'clock.

I dont think u can reach a max. weight but I've experienced the same as u. In 5th grade i was about 120lbs and now I'm 165libs and about the same heigth and going into 10th grade. Pretty much in puberty you gain a pretty big appetite and you eat more as well as grow. We both should probably lose some weight but like you ppl dont even realize i'm overweight. But, honestly dont worry about weight. That doesnt matter whatsoever. Its the body fat that matters. I have a friend who weighs the same as I do but his is all muscle unlike me so...
