My parents brought me into Goodlife fitness and wanted to get more info. There is a two month free program for teens from 12-17 years old. I am really happy about joining but at the same time I'm really nervous. I don't know anyone who is joining plus what if I stand out? I am 15 and pretty over weight. I am that type of guy who is self concious about his own look and weight.. So is joining a gym worth it?
If you want, can you tell me some experiences you've had with joining gyms, especially if you were overweight? I'm really nervous and tips and advice would really help me out.

At the end of the day, you and everyone else are there for one purpose: to better yourselves.
Don't make a big deal out of it bro. Everyone starts somewhere.

I'm not a gym member but I've been to ones before. I felt very self conscious at first but then realised that no one is really looking it was fun to use all the different stuff. To be honest, gyms seem to be fully of very vain people who all busy looking at themselves to pay attention to others haha.
Just remember that everyone likes different things and I'm sure you look good and you're being over criticle of yourself.

I had the same problem when I first joined the Tactical Defense Academy to train martial arts and MMA. I was obviously going to stand out in the beginner class for JKD and barely learning the stance and strikes while everyone were doing combo drills in MMA. I just decided to go in and not worry about any of that. 1 because I said, "Fuck it, just do it. No one will worry about it." And 2, this is something I still say even today, "I may be lower than everyone else, but I'm still learning and training and later will be higher than I was today." Basically saying be a noob now, walk a fighter later.
I know, this is 3 days after you've needed your encouragement but still think even if you have a nervous feeling in your stomach about going everyday, today you'll be overweight but later you'll be fit and strong.
Even when I was in high school, I was scrawnier than I am now but I really enjoyed lifting weights, working out even if I didn't have any fat. I liked the excersize and the results. I was nervous to work out in front of others who are much stronger and lift more and stuff but I thought to myself, "I'm not the only one. There are others even weaker than I am." Now I fight and workout without even worrying about others watching. Which helps me with my horrible case of "stage fright".
Do it and get it over with. Hope your future goes well for you.

Honestly there is nothing to worry about. Maybe you have somebody you can go with, would make a bit easier? But, sooner or later you will get used to the whole thing. Most people just come there, and do their exercises, then go home again. So why be scared? A lot of people in the gym are also struggling with their looks just like you :) Just give it a chance.

The way you earn respect in the gym is through passion dog. they like to see that you try your best. as long as you do that, youre on the money.
