I have a plane ride coming up and I need some methods to calm myself down. I dont like flying, especially taking off, anyone else feel very fearful during plane rides?
I know nothing bad will happen, I just naturally get scared. It's like imprinted in my brain to do so. No fear of heights or anything, I love roller coasters.
I think the problem lies with not being in control.

just try to be calm, if you got anyone to talk to, do so, and if you don't, then close your eyes and imagine the start of a rollercoaster ride. Also think. If you're not afraid of anything related to flying, why are you afraid of planes? Planes are controlled bypeople who has has hundres and thousands of hours of training, i know the sensations of a takeoff are impressive, in fact, i love flying and after ±20 flights it still feels kinda weird, but there's nothiing to worry about, it's just a few seconds ;)

Just know the statistics that you're extremely safe up there. The last fatal accident in the US was in early 2009, and almost 2million people have flown each day since. The guys who drive you to the airport in taxis have less training than the pilots of your flight. Anyways, takeoff is only about a minute, so I bet you can distract yourself. Plus personally you would be in a lot more trouble if YOU were in control of the plane rather than the pilots. ;)
