My friend recently started cutting himself because of a girl he really likes who dumped him in November. They then got back together but he still cuts himself "to speak with the devil." He also says that if she dumps him again he will kill himself. How do I get this poor boy out of the this depression phase? I suggested him to the school counselor but is there anything else I can do?
Please help!

how close is he as a friend? if hes really close i personally know you can have a huge impact on his life. you would need to be with him and help him out but if hes just a friend then try to get him some help like you have. I hope the best from him.

tell a trusted adult, and let him know you are concerned. That way he doesn't feel like he's going through it alone. Also, avoid saying you understand or you know what he's going through, because those phrases can lead to arguing and unnecessary anger. hope this helps

A counsellor wont help your friend he needs to know that people care for him and will help him through the hard times

No. There is no need to tell any trusted adult close to him, yet.
A counselor could help, but if you two are close enough, then just talk to him about it. Let him vent, and just support him.

You should get him help, one of my friends was in the same position, and I got them help, and they are much better now.

He needs help, big time. This goes far beyond self harm in the ways that the majority of us do it. He has some major issues that I'm afraid you might need an adult to take care of.
