I believe in that. I think it's better in some ways than making it a surprise. Cause' you know that your partner will accept the engagement when they receive it. But they can always change their mind over time so it can back fire.

I never got the engagement thing anyway ... I think getting engage is an unnecessary thing. I think it's enough to just make a deal with your partner: "Okay, so, in, like, 6 months, we'll get married." And that's it. No rings, no engagement parties, that's just a waist of time and money. You'll get a ring and a party once you get MARRIED, not ENGAGED. (No offense, that's just my opinion.)

And pre-engagement ... wow, that seems even more unnecessary to me. I just don't get this thing. Why should someone get on one knee and propose you? Why shouldn't you just make a deal, like: "Do you wanna get married?" "Okay." "When?" "In July." "Okay." Why do we need to make such a big deal out of everything?

I'm very much traditional in my approach to marriage and stuff so I would hate a pre engagement, I want my partner to ask me to marry them I wouldn't want to know in advance it would kind of ruin it for me I guess.

Exactly. when you finally get engaged it would be like 'so exciting. i already planned what was going to happen here'. getting engaged is a nice way to celebrate the love that you have for the other person and the fact that you getting married. a pre engagement would be so weird
