As a Mac switcher for the exact same reason, definitely go for the new one.

It is a little pricy; have you considered the lower end, but updated models of MacBook Pro's, like the non-retina 13 or 15 inch? They may be more easier to save up for, because it's like at least a $400 cheaper than the Retina model.

Though if you want to save up for the new Retina one, go for it! Though others (not naming names) may disagree about the technology, It's a great display technology that I hope apple will in the future allow other manufacturers to allow them to use it in their displays. It's very crisp and high quality, and it's great for editing, gaming, and movie watching.

Cheers on switching, Dylan! :D

That sounds great! I think the old one still works very well. I have a 2010 model and still runs faster than my old PC :)

Yep, they removed that annoying Glass cover and bezel so it's a lot better.

Cheers on the MacBook, regardless! :)

You can get a retina one for $200 less with apple's education discount. :)

I would just find a dead macbook, rip the casing off and migrate my windows hardware into the macbook, and apply a mac theme. simple, as, that. but if its just for a higher res display, i wouldn't go for it.

I love Macs. I love Apple. But when buying Apple products you are instantly paying 20-30% more in price because of the half eaten Apple on the front. Don't get me wrong though. In about a year, I will have every product apple offers. :)

Regarding the new MacBook, it is nice. Very nice. And will probably meet your needs and even exceed them. However, my question to you is: Are you willing to pay $2200 for something that you can get from $1400 if its a Windows computer?

I hope this helped and gave you some insight on which is better. Good luck with your purchase.

It's a little expensive, but it is worth it. That computer is a beast. It has the power to run three monitors at once plus the one on the laptop. The ssd inside the computer is super fast also. If your not sure go to an apple store and try one out.

I like the technology, but I wouldn't buy one. It's going to get to the point where everything will have similar technology..

I'm planning to get one eventually. A lot of the time my mom gets mad at me if things take too long to do on the computer (for example if she wants me to write a letter and Word isn't opening fast enough), so I need a computer that can keep up with the demands of this family.

System 76 ROCKS! I'm serious, the power they put into these things is amazing and the fact that the OS installed on it is free is what allows them to make these so cheap. but if you don't like linux you can always take the hardrive out of a windows laptop or desktop, makesure the hardrive is compatible with your new linux laptop, if it is compatible install it into your laptop and Viola! you got yourself a nice windows laptop for a fraction of the price. then if you want a challenge you can install hackintosh on it, or install a mac theme!

Even though it is very pricy (Mine cost around $2800) It is a very capable laptop. Since I game quite a bit and do graphic design, I love it. However, if you are going to do a lot of intensive tasks, I would get the one with the 2.6 GHz (If you can) because it will run a lot better. However, I still think the regular 15" would be good for most people.
