:)Right I know this may be a stupid question but really want to know the answer.

Basically I am 14, 15 in a couple of months, and I am 5 foot 6. Thats a normal height for my age but ive heard that I wont grow much more than an inch or so before im fully grown. I know if you are short its not a big deal but I do worry sometimes I wont be the normal height of an average man.

I have smoke for a year or so, On and off, not heavily either; could this affect my height growth too? I have currently started giving up and am doing pretty well by the way :)

so yeh, is there anyway to determine if Im going to grow much more? or anyways to make sure I reach my full potential of the amount I grow?

sorry if they are stupid questions!

thanks

Nah, it's not a stupid question man.

First off, smoking doesn't affect your growth and development, or at least by very little. The whole "smoking affects growth and development" applies to babies, when the baby is still in the womb of the mother and it's growing insider her. If she smokes, it might affect the baby and cause birth defects.

As far as how much you'll grow, we don't know. You may or may not end up the average height. Although it really doesn't matter if you do, you'll just be shorter than average! It's nothing to worry about! :D

I wouldn't expect some serious growth, but you may grow a few more inches. Like I said, there's no way to tell :-s

whoops, nevermind. i should do my research.

there's a way to determine how tall you're going to be, by going to a doctor. they can give you a rough estimate based on your mothers height, your fathers, and how far you are in puberty. i'm 14, going to be 15 in a few months as well, i'm about 5' 7.5". my dad's only about 5' 10" so i dont expect to grow that much. i've been the same height for a long time. so you're probably going to reach your maximum height in a year or so, and there's nothing you can do to ensure your maximum potential but dont do things that stunt your growth.

Thanks guys for the replies :-)

I dont want to sound shallow, I just dont want to be small as an adult. I know 5 foot 6 isnt really THAT short, but considering the average man is about 5 foot 9 or so? then it is :S

You are 14, you still have time to grow. As Zach said, you won't grow amazingly tall, but chances are you will be average height. If not then a little bit shorter than average, but that doesn't really matter. Women are naturally shorter than men so not growing a few inches won't disadvantage you that majorly.

As far as I am aware of, smoking doesn't greatly stunt growth. I can't see it helping you grow either. Stopping smoking is a very good thing as it reduces other health risks, so congrats on cutting down. Let's just hope you can quit completely!

Any chemist should sell nicotine patches.
Congrats and good luck with kicking the habit
