last night my family and at ''get together'' for my dads friends birthday. i heard my dad talking to someone else and he said that you hve to let you kids be who they want to be. he doesnt allow me to live my life as a girl and he doesnt accept me so why would he say that.

The way that I know it is that it's hard for dads to accept their own children, compared with others. I don't understand why but that's the way it is, I know my dad took longer to accept me as gay compared to one of my friends. It's also probably because you're a mtf which is a lot harder to accept than just gay or whatever (yeah I know it shouldn't be that way but it is). I think that you should talk to him and ask why he says that to other people but yet, doesn't put it into practice with you.

I think on some biological level parents can struggle with homosexuality and gender identity issues because naturally as humans, as organisms we are designed to and most have the desire to reproduce and carry on the family name, heritage and bloodline/genetics and some people take great pride in that history.
If you are the only son to carry the name on that is really important to some, otherwise m or f to carry on the family's genes... which in many homosexual/transgender etc. people that's just not going to happen like that - and thats fine for the individual but it may have a different meaning to the parent
