Last night, I was rudely awoken by a sudden and extremely painful cramp in my calf muscle. So I tried to get rid of it by forcing my leg straight. But the pain intensified so much that I cried out in agony and tried to stand up.

I got out of bed and stood up. Then as suddenly as it came, the cramp and the pain disappeared. However, my calf muscle is still pretty sore and it feels like it could cramp at any moment.

What the hell is this? Should I even be worried?

You probably were just sleeping wrong. If it happens again you might want to do something about it, but otherwise nothing to worry about.

Try massaging it and keep it warm, like having a bath and it should relax your muscles.

It was probably just you sleeping in the wrong position and shouldn't happen again. If it does, you should see a doctor.

There are many many causes of cramps. I can't just narrow it down to one cause for you sorry, but when they do come, massage the affected area and slowly try to stretch it out. A cramp is where the muscle contracts but doesn't relax.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to help out. My leg seems to be fine today, I guess I overreacted haha.

I get the exact same thing once in a while. Sometimes my calf is a little sore the next day but it goes away. It sure makes me jump out of bed fast tho.

The same thing happened to my sister once. I know it sounds weird, but to prevent it, eat bananas. They can restore some of the lost calsium and potassium that can sometimes cause cramps. Hope this helps!

Hmmm yes, but I think I'll take magnesium and potassium supplements. Good idea though!
