I love writing and I always wanted to write a book or a short story. However every time I go to start a story I don't know how to start it and what to do and what not to do.
Any advice or tips ??:)

How bout brainstorm! I mean yeah it's not for school, but every school teacher has told me even the best of the best authors do similar brainstorming like we do. Like developing characters, situations, plots, ect. Then write from there!

Write random words and phrases and try to wrap a story around them.
Remember you don't have to start a story from the beginning, I start most of my stories from the middle and work my way around them.

Sometimes the best way to start a story is to figure out how you want to end it and go from there.

Meep! This is what I do as well. Just sit down and THINK. Just think about everything you like in stories that you've read, and expand on them. Maybe you like it when characters are funny at inappropriate times. Expand on it! Make a character based completely around it! Most importantly, don't make it feel like a chore. Have fun when you're writing! Hope I helped, and when you finish the story I hope you post it so we can read :D
EDIT: 600th post, throwing a mini-party right now! :D :D :D

Brainstorm is a good idea, we often do it in school when we have to write a story. You could try to start the story with lots of action, eg. people running away from something/someone or shooting. (all depends what is the genre of your story), and start to build it from there.
By the way I totally agree with Mirage - when you`ve finished writing the story I`d really like to read it!
