My mom drives a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 I-6 RWD, and it is absolutely falling apart! Here's a list of things that don't work:

-Broken window motors on the front driver's side, front passenger side, and rear driver's side
-Broken track on the sunroof, which causes it to get stuck
-Broken lock in the cargo area (you have to crawl across the back seats and reach into a hole made into the trunk door and flip a little switch to unlock it)
-Completely replaced heating/cooling system (2011)
-REALLY bad coolant and antifreeze leaks.
-Transmission is almost completely blown ( Shifts at low RPMs and lurches violently: no joke)
-Oil leak
-Transmission fluid leak
-CD player doesn't work
-Vibration problem in the front which causes severe warping of the disks.
-Badly damaged front headlights
-Electrical problem which causes the fuses in the rear lights to blow
-Catalytic converter is failing

It can't pass emissions so we have like 3 tickets pending, all amounting to about 500 dollars. It has 175,000 miles, but we have a 89' GMC Sierra which has 210,000 miles that still works fine with regular maintenance. So my question is, who owns a Jeep and has come to the conclusion that they are all cheaply made and that they fall apart?

I don't own one yet, but when I start driving it is the first car I want! But I will definitely keep an out on the break downs.

My dad is on his 2nd Jeep. His first was a 1997 Grand Cherokee Limited...it had over 220,000 miles on it, and he never had any problems with it. He now has a 2007 Commander Limited, and he hasn't had any issues with it either. He loves the Commander and wishes Jeep didn't stop making them.

We used to have a jeep with many problems.

However, I think Jeep has improved, and I would consider it as one of my choices when buying a car.

Well, it doesn't matter what car you have, if you look after it none of those problems will happen.

Very true, you can have the best car in the world and not take care of it and in a few years it will be junk

We do perform regular maintenance on the car, but it's getting to where if we repair everything, it'll cost more than the car itself. I do agree that they are making Jeeps allot better now, especially since Fiat bought them out; my aunt even owns one. We are planning to replace It later on this summer with a Ford Edge SEL.

Well, transmissions don't generally blow that early unless you have done something to it.

Well, most other people have many problems with the 1999-2004 model year grand cheerokees. Most of these people do: http://www.edmunds.com/jeep/grand-cherokee/2001/consumer-reviews.html
New to damages: EGR sensor failed.

My pastor actually had a LOT of problems with his Jeep Wrangler. Certain cars are just junk.

I love Jeeps. It's just all part of the owning experience. After all... Jeep does stand for Just Empty Every Pocket.
