I submitted an online form to McDonalds and got to the interview stage, but then got turned down. I applied for a job in a cafe before that and also got turned down. I am trying the internet and searching for as many jobs around my local areas as possible, and submitting CVs. I also plan to go down town next week and hand in job applications into shops.
Is this the best way to go about it and why am I constantly being turned down for jobs despite the fact I have a very impressive set of qualifications? Is there such thing as being overqualified for a position, or are they simply looking for someone who can show the appropriate communication and interpersonal skills. I am trying extremely hard without luck.
Your help and advise would be appreciated.

Just keep trying and applying different places. There are lots of people in your situation right now. Something will work out for you that's meant to be.

You're doing everything right. It just takes time. I'd recommend applying to be a waiter if you say your qualifications are really good. Just keep applying to a lot of places and don't give up :)

Turned down from the McD? How is that possible?
~~~
Try to find something that is related to your hobbies. Do you like cars? Try to find work at the local car wash or petrol station. Do you like children(I do hope you don't have a smirk on your face Because that's not what I meant :rolleyes:)? Try to find a job at a daycare or something of the sort. Otherwise, you could always heave crates and fill shelves at your local supermarket.
You'll find something, don't worry. You might want to look at a company such as Manpower (http://www.manpower.com/) in your area (https://candidate.manpower.com/wps/portal/GBCampus/jobs/Search-Manpower-Jobs/!ut/p/c5/04_SB8K8xLLM9MSSzPy8xBz9CP0os3g3pxAP35BgYwN_vwAzA08DA5NQRw8jAyCtHw7SgaTC3SzYxcAo zM_U0NjfzMDA3wwib4ADOBro-3nk56bqF2Rnpzk6KioCANQBSBo!/dl3/d3/L0lDUmlTUSEhL3dHa0FKRnNBL1lCUmZ3QSEhL2VuX0dC). for temporary jobs.
Cheers for all the advise. I'm just applying for as many jobs as I can that I feel suitable on the job sites and shop windows. Just waiting for responses I guess. It's all about patience. How long is the average response time?
Hey I was turned down from everywhere for about a year
just go and never stop applying. When they call and ask if you are still looking for a job give then a true answer and try more fast food places
Yeah just remember almost everyone is in your position, OP.
Eventually you'll find something just persist.
Same here. I keep applying for jobs but to no avail. I've decided to keep on trying. It's the only choice we've got.:(
If you live in the US it's gonna be VERY hard to find one. I know from a Managers/Owners point of view they would rather have experience in their employees. If you do not have experience, you will most likely be turned down. The 3 things they look for in employees (even fast food restaurants) Looks, experience, attitude.
My dads friend owns a small chain of bars (and so did my dad) and they were talking about how restaurant owners like to hire hot women. So say their is this one girl with a small chest, who's 22 and is blonde hair and doesn't have looks on her side, but has 3 years experience, and there is another girl with a big chest (boobs) blonde, and is extremely beautiful, with no experience. Owners/managers would rather hire the one with the big chest and beautiful and no experience than the other one. Looks play an important roll in the restaurant industry, and really any industry that is about customers seeing them. If you work as a miner, they probably won't care what you look like. If you work as a waitress they care what you look like. oh, and one more thing, restaurant owners would rather hire a slightly snobby waitress who's beautiful, than a ugly waitress who's the nicest.
So the three things that will make an owner wanna hire you before anyone else are:
Looks
Experience
Attitude
This isn't some lie I'm saying, their was a tv show that did a test, and they did something similar and the boss immediately hired the beautiful one and was kinda rude or had no patience with the not so beautiful one.
Thankfully I've never been in that situation cause my dad has always hired me at his restaurants.
