Posting this because I'm curious. I've seen the rule about bumping in the forum rules. I don't think I've ever broken it, but I'm just curious why it's a rule and why you freeze threads that people bump on. Does it cause a server problem or something? Idk, just curious.

Why is a thread from six months ago relevant? Unless it's the OP posting it, then the OP probably isn't reading it anyway. So if they had a problem it's either resolved or they're no longer seeking help on the issue here within VT. If someone else has the same type problem they'll likely make their own thread about it for their specific situation so there isn't a need to bump it for "tips" or "general advice."

Because if a thread is out-of-date, most likely it doesn't apply to the original poster anymore or they got the help they needed. However, the creator of a thread can "bump" their own thread any time they want because they're aware of the relevance of it.

In addition to what was said above, threads die and lose their freshness for a reason; if those threads were to be brought back to life, they would be taking up spots on the front pages of the section where new, fresh threads made by people who will still be checking their topics and looking for answers could be.
