I understand why everyone is so bothered about whether they're gay/straight/bi. If you are, you are, you can't change it and you'll find out soon enough if you really are.
People seem in too much of a rush to stereotype themselves.
Two years ago I was straight, then I "fooled around" with one of my mates, found out I was bi, then 'saw the light' so-to-speak and realised I was gay...
I can't even remember what my point was... I think I need to go to sleep lol.
But yeah, why does everyone seem so bothered to label themselves - either you're bi, gay or neither.
Sorry, pointless post...

It's because they don't want to seem lost, or be judged by people. Simple.

I don't think that people are looking for labels or to stereotype themselves. More likely I think that they are looking for answers and trying to find out who they are.
They may say that they think they are bisexual because they think that they're attracted to both genders, but to varying degrees, and later find out they only have feelings for one gender.
So, they attach the word 'bisexual' to their feelings for both genders. Not because they want the label.

I understand that but people should just accept themselves for who they are, regardless of anything. I'm not always happy with the fact that I'm a lesbian when people make snide comments and such but it's something that I can't change, I'm happy knowing that I know that bit about myself... Even if not all of my family like it.

That's true too. I just don't agree with stereotypes lol, even though I am sometimes guilty of doing it... :/

Well, stereotypes and labels serve a purpose, 'cause how would gay people find other gay people otherwise? It would happen, but it would be a lot harder.

It all just has to do with social pressure. For hundreds of years people have been pressured to be a certain way due to religion and were persecuted otherwise. So that turned into regular social norms of today, which is most commonly seen with teens because the highschool years are when kids "find who they are". These social norms and pressures are why people care so much about their sexual preference because they are unfortunately judged if they are not the same as everyone else.

It's because society has become so bad in school where you are judged for every little thing that you do!
