i don't really understand why so many people have troubles with this.

Here is how you can completely clean your computer out so it was like the way it was fresh out of the box..

Step 1 - Get an Micrsoft windows 98 installation disk and boot to it...
format your drive and install it

Step 2 - install your current OS

its not that difficult lol...

Yeah but then you'd have to back up all your documents, music, and photos onto a seperate drive and after running the CD you have to reinstall all your programs and reupload all your music, files, and photos. And if you don't have XP service pack 2 you have to redownload it and reinstall it. It's a big hassle and really should only be a last resort, otherwise invest in a good anti-virus and firewall.

Why would you do something that drastic? You don't need to reformat if you have spyware, just fix it. And besides that, there are other operating systems than Windows 98, which is quite outdated by now anyway.

If someone is having difficulties with spyware, adware, or viruses, I recommend reviewing my article posted as a sticky in this forum.

Your method wouldn't work for me because all of my computers now use SATA hard drives. Plus, as Kiros said you don't need to reformat because of it. Aother problem is that many people don't have older versions of windows anymore. Another thing is like Ant said, its no-where near as simple as it sounds!

There is an even easyer answer. Don't get Spyware/Viruses/Trojans etc. I personally I haven't had an antivirus program on my computer in about 4 months and am doing just fine. I find that they interfere with my programs and thus i am unable to have one. Most of the time with good judgment and common sense you don't have to worry about viruses at all.

You'll be suprised how much spyware you get even while being careful. Anyways this is old and pointless so locking.
