ok so i know that the ipad released in march is not called the ipad 3. But i have seen it called "the new Ipad", the "3rd generation Ipad", and just like 10 minutes ago saw a commercial calling it simply "Ipad" so what im asking is what is the official name of the ipad?

I think apple just calls it the iPad. Though lots of places will call it the new iPad or 3rd gen iPad to avoid confusion.

Yeah basically they dropped the number scheme because the numbers could easily get too high. They will likely drop the numbers for the iPhone as well.

Yeah i figured they will drop the number scheme for the i phone as this year would be the release of the iphone 6. And people seem to think that fresh is better and would eventually want a completly new phone from apple. So yea.

It's gonna be the iPhone 5 still.

Did you know that the NT in "Windows NT" originally stood for "New Technology"? Eventually, Micro$oft changed it to just mean "NT", nothing more, nothing less.

Apple will likely make every new thing the new X, then change it to the corresponding number when the newer version comes out, which is then called the new X for a while.
It's called marketing.
