today i got a letter for my college interview. i'm applying to do an NC in art and design. i don't have the qualifications you need to get on the course so i'm kinda surprised i got an interview. now i'm making a portfolio to take with me. about 90% of it so far is drawing... so can i get a camera, learn about photography and get some awesome photos for my portfolio - in just 3 weeks? or is that laughable? yeah i probably should have thought of this sooner. but even just a couple to give it some more interest would be good. i suppose they don't have to be technically brilliant. interesting will do. if you've got any better ideas of stuff i could put in it then let me know. my girlfriend sent me this book about mixed media art and i'm kind of meh about that. its not really my thing.
i do kind of want to get into photography tho. i always go places and think "that would make a good photo" but i don't have a camera. what do i want in a camera? it all looks kind of confusing. where is a good place for beginners to get advice and info?
thanks!

Hey!
Well it's not laughable and It's somehow possible to take some good shots.
You can search in sites like DeviantArt etc to get ideas about choosing a theme to shot, angles etc. Photography requires imagination and a good eye. If you have these then you're 50% ready.
As for the camera well you need one that should have a cpu that shows the colors good enough and at least 10 mp (most of the cameras are 10 megapixels + in our days).
I can send you some dA portofolios to take some ideas if you like to :)

It isn't laughable at all. You may not have photography experience, but you do have art experience. You could try a still life but with the twist of very unusual lighting (light and shadow are a favorite) or something completely different. Depending on whether you're allowed to photomanipulate, you can add effects. If you're using a camera with a slow shutter speed, jerking the camera as it takes the photo will result in a blur, which can be quite pleasing to the eye and look surreal.
Most of all, good luck!!!!

thanks! someone lent me a camera - but its only 7 point something megapixels. and its full of pictures of her baby. maybe i should get another memory card for it. its a sony cyber-shot i think.
ok, i'll check out DeviantArt. i use it quite a lot for other stuff anyway. just never looked in the photography section. i kind of have this idea of making some kind of photo set of where i live. not boring landscapes and tourist attractions, but like the darker side of it. graffiti, abandoned buildings stuff like that. i think a set of photos with a theme would be better? rather than just random pictures of bees on flowers and sunsets? i just downloaded a free photo manipulation program. i'm sure its fine to edit them cos its about art, not just how good you are at taking photos.
thanks for the luck too :)
